I'll say Illmatic by Nas. Stone Roses self titled debut is also a common pick, but then again there wasn't a lot to compare it to.

I'll say Illmatic by Nas. Stone Roses self titled debut is also a common pick, but then again there wasn't a lot to compare it to. IF it was a band or soloist who ONLY put out one album...then it'd be both the BEST and the WORST. The debate would be whether or not that one album was any good, or not. Superb, great, good, average, mediocre, subpar or CRAP.

Maybe the first Van Halen album. I would have said Metallica's Master of Puppets if it weren't for all the people who only started liking them with the Black album.

Pretenders first album. Public Image's second album. Michael Jackson's "Thriller."

Maybe the first Van Halen album. This has to be undisputed. I guarantee you that some would say "1984" is their best.

Television - Marquee Moon My Bloody Valentine - Loveless, very popular consensus, though I personally prefer Isn't Anything Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
None of those have particularly large discographies though

None of those have particularly large discographies though I'd go with Isn't Anything too, though in this context I agree it's Loveless. I'm still puzzled how Neutral Milk Hotel have a best anything

Not true. "In Utero" is an artistic masterpiece. Truly is a far better album than "Nevermind" in so many ways with artistic expression being the number one way.

True, Nevermind is obviously the most popular, but it's definitely not their "undisputed" best. A lot of people (myself included) prefer In Utero and some even Bleach.
