What was one of the first, if not THE first (non-musical) movie to use specific songs, or music to enhance the story (in other words, used it as something other than just background music)? For instance, though it was nowhere near being one of the first, Forrest Gump (1994) is a perfect example of a movie that utilized VERY specific songs in conjunction with the different eras that Tom Hank's character kept cropping up in. Anybody know what might have been one of the first movies ever, to use music in a similar way ?? SAVE FERRIS
