10/10 - I know some will disagree, but for me, Braveheart is a masterpiece. The dialogue, the acting, the cinematography, the casting, all superb.

8/10 as a movie. Poorer grades for historical accuracy.

Even back then I wasn't impressed by its production value or the battles. Game of Thrones beats it easily as a mere TV show.

6/10 – I dislike heroic looks at war and this one was way too heroic.

If you know how long this movie is, it's worth watching at least one

B+
Upon its release, it was in my top 10 until about the end of the 90's. I think re-watches declined because of both its length, & somewhat tedious England royal stuff (in the castle & whatnot).
The violence is fine, mostly because I saw firsthand docs about hiring physically disabled ppl to go all in for the limb chops & whatnot. I can't really watch a movie like it without thinking how great it is for such ppl to get real work on film lols... which desensitizes it for me oddly enough.
Surely at the very least, it brought back the grand historical spectacle film... including fictional LOTR which TTT for me feels a bit like Braveheart. Had it not been critically &/or economically successful, we'd be missing out on such great works... not least the likes of a Game of Thrones televised.

4/10 - would be lower if it wasn't for the unintentional laughs

I haven't watched it in several years but I would give it a 9/10. It's been well documented how historically inaccurate much of the movie is but it's not a documentary. These types of films are almost always inaccurate and the further we are way from the time the movie takes place the greater the inaccuracy. All I care about is if it's an entertaining film and it definitely is that. A great cast, led by Mel Gibson, who has proven he is even a greater director than actor, and he is a very talented actor. Another Horner masterpiece score, I think he was the best composer of the 90s. And let's not forget the beautiful cinematography and I think it was mostly shot right in Scotland.
