I really enjoyed the movie. I am not dogging it, but I feel this needs to be said. It IS NOT the greatest comic book movie of all time. It will not get nominated for Best Picture and if it did, that would be a joke. It was a pretty good movie. That is all. Fans on here saying parts brought them to tears or it should win best picture are just fooling themselves. Come on, I know that the DCEU has been terrible and you guys need something to hang your hat on, but let's look at this objectively. Was this movie better than Iron Man? The Dark Knight? The Winter Soldier? Guardians of the Galaxy? No it was not. It had a weak villain and a weak ending with a flimsy and simple story. It was well done and well produced. I enjoyed it, but what the heck is with all of the over praise from DC fans? Are you that insecure? I never understood this 'battle' between MCU and DCEU fans. The FACT is that the MCU has been better so far. Their movies are better. They have performed better financially and critically. Why get mad over it? Do you see this money? Wouldn't it be more prudent to want the DCEU movies to be good? Batman is my favorite superhero. I like DC characters. If DC makes a good movie, I will say so. Most of the time, unfortunately, they miss. They hit with Wonder Woman, but let's not blow it out of proportion.

It's a good film (a bit dull on second viewing) but I am puzzled by the high praise it got. In the context of the sub sub genre of female led CBMs its a triumph. As a CBM movie it is far from exceptional.
As a DC movie it comes no where close to Nolan's Batman films, Watchmen, The Losers or RED

I don't think they had fully recovered from the BvS and Suicide Squad turd-fest of last summer. If you are a DC fanboy, that had to be a mortifying experience.
Along comes Wonder Woman, it's not nearly as bad, and the natural reaction from shell-shocked DC fans is to overcompensate by elevating it to Citizen Kane status. Granted, it is Citizen Kane compared to BvS, but the general public tends to have higher standards than that.
Talk of Best Picture is just more ammunition for ridicule when the nominations come out. Put that away for use later.

Immediately upon walking out the first thing I thought was that people would realize there wasn't that much to it when they saw it a second time.

My daughters love this movie so I have actually seen it three times. I like it, sure, but it is an average movie.

I really enjoyed it as well but yeah it is a bit overrated. It's definitely not the best superhero movie ever though I'm not really seeing people say that to begin with.
The Dark Knight will always be the superhero movie to beat which will probably never happen.

I still put it at #2 for me though because I enjoyed The Winter Soldier more. This is simply because the action scenes were better.

I'd argue quite a few comic films meet or exceed that mark.

It comes down to peoples perception, such as when the film was about to come out before the reviews were let out we had heard rumblings as of early this year that Wonder Woman was another botch by DC, so for months people readied themselves for a meh film, but then we got a good film, so when you compare it to the disappointments of BVS & Suicide Squad both of which had a lot of hope going into them and left people moaning the fact Wonder Woman left almost everyone going yeah I liked that elevated the like to love.
on the opposite end I didn't see this in theatre's, I waited till the home release, so I sat through 3 months of unending praise for the film, through speculation of Oscar nominations and so on, so I came away feeling utterly underwhelmed by the film, because to me it's just a good CBM, and I've seen great CBM's, well a lot of great CBM's to be frank, so after I first watched it I thought well that's shit, but then I quickly figured out there wasn't anything I disliked about the film, but there was little I loved about it, so I realised I didn't dislike it I just wasn't blown away by it and it was because of my high expectations not the film itself that was at fault for this.
I personally do not think this film has a lot of rewatch value, for me atleast, but I'm a 30 year old man, for women especially younger women, and for young girls I can see this easily being something they can appreciate far better than I could.

Perfect analogy. The movie is good. I know this and am not saying otherwise, but the praise it gets is baffling to me. You explained it well. Expectations can play a large role.

I like Logan better. But critically speaking WW is surely the best CBM this year as it manages to appeal to new, broader audience segments (women) without scaring off the core fanbase (manchildren). Also, it is the one with a neat message and some fine writing and old fashioned storytelling.
One of the few CBM that manages to appeal to the masses without dumbing down too much. I wonder if they manage too keep that up.

It's a combination of low public expectation, DCEU fantard relief and critics being happy that they finally didn't have to trash another DCEU movie and get harrassed by rabid zealots. Wonder Woman might actually be one the top 5 overrated movies of all time. I certainly can't think of any I find more overrated off the cuff.

I wouldn't be surprised also if people just think they cant criticise it to an extent, like last year when Ghostbusters came out and lots of people shit on it, instead of accepting people doing so because it wasn't a good movie you got a lot of pushback claiming it was sexism, so I think a small part is just because a lot of people probably were cautious of being as critical of Wonder Woman as they would be towards a film with a male lead, based on the fact it's a female lead movie in a male lead dominated genre.

If DC fans are still talking about how great WW is, 3 months after Justice League comes out, we'll know the answer.

Wonder Woman is so highly rated because of the children orientated mediocrities surrounding it (discounting Wolverine III which was more dystopian action in the sense of Dredd or Looper). For those of us dating women, it's a perfect movie where both parts end up satisfied, and you could even bring a child along enjoying it, god forbid.
I would not have thought it possible.

Get Out is the most overrated movie of the year by far.
Wonder Woman was fine. I enjoyed most of it but its not even close to being in my top CBM and its certainly not best picture worthy.
