Never seen it, but it was a suggestion of mine once for a possible answer for someone's "I Need to Know" on the old now-defunct IMDb board of the same name. AfaIr, most other posters agreed...but the OP disappeared and never told us IF I was right, or not.

Are you heading for Whitewood?
Creepy film, good use of atmosphere.

No, but his/her description fits the film real close.

I've seen it several times. I even watched it again today just because of this thread.
Good atmosphere and a great use of fog.
SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW SPOILERS BELOW
I think it's interesting how both Psycho and this movie came out in 1960 and both featured a heroine who was killed about a half hour into the film, leaving the remainder of the film to be about the investigation.
The film is definitely worth a watch, but it's not nearly as good as Psycho.

Another comparison I saw between Psycho and Horror Hotel is when Psycho first came out, some audience members were so terrified by the shower scene, they swore they could see the red blood, which of course is impossible since it was chocolate syrup, but, when I saw Horror Hotel, and the witches catch fire at the end, I would've almost sworn I could see the flames in color.

novastar6It's funny how memory works. Until last year, I would have sworn that the original Fly was in black-and-white, but it's in color.

I've seen it. I think it's a well crafted little horror/ mystery.

One of my favorite black & white horror movies. Very atmospheric, great cinematography. Story unfolds more like that of a silent film, with very little dialogue.
Fulci's City of the Living Dead was quite obviously inspired by this - another great haunted town movie with good use of grainy film stock, empty streets and fog machines.
