probably the worst children's book to be made into a movie -- and the worst children's book to begin with.
I never understood the hype about this book. scary animal monster creatures... no. just no thank you. and the book [taking into consideration the time and how parents actually disciplined their kids back then] the sheer act of to bed without supper/dinner is just cruel.
and then you get to the end of the book and the kid 'comes back' and there is supper waiting for him. so what lesson did he learn? what else is his punishment for what happened? and now we have this kid driving the bus at home. this is what I hate about parenting today, these kids already know more than they should and everyone is teaching/raising scared [that is if they raising these kids at all].

i don't reflect at all on the teachings, and never did as a kid. I just loved the book for the visuals and atmosphere. The film replicated that very well IMO.
