Wow, a lot of hate for the Walker brothers in this topic. Yes, they're assholes, but there's a place for that. I love their sibling rivalry and real thoughts reviews, probably the best material they put out now. Even if you end up disagreeing with them they are I still so fascinating and interesting to watch. As far as NC goes, it's hit or kiss these days, but there's still some quality left. I haven't seen It yet, but I actually find the Walkers fair and would never accuse them of hipster badassery.

"Fair" You Walker supporters keep using that word and I've never seen either one come anywhere close to being that.

I imagine some people probably do that but those who hate just to hate i would not take them seriously as the cardinal rule when it comes to movies is to ALWAYS give your honest opinion regardless if it's for or against the majority or you feel a movie is over/under rated.
I would disagree here.
the vast majority of movies are nothing special. so with that in mind it's not all that surprising that some people will not care for some more praised movies based on that standard of the Rotten Tomatoes thing.
also, i think if i had to make up a rough standard of judgement for judging someones tastes in movies it would be based more around wide public opinion as if someone is always or nearly always dissing fairly well known or well known movies but likes more obscure movies then chances are you could say they have 'bad taste' in movies as they would have very little to nothing in common with the more typical movie watcher.
to comment not specifically on this movie but with that line of thinking... just because something don't follow the source material etc does not automatically mean it will be bad. sure, some might want it to follow that and that's fine but at the end of the day you may still like the movie in general when not comparing to that stuff.
just for me personally... i go into most movies i see with that, "it will probably be decent enough for a viewing but won't have any re-watch appeal" because that's pretty much what happens for me over the long term with the majority of movies i see.
for the record... Transformers (2007) tops Pacifc Rim (2013) if you ask me. but i have not seen Transformers (2007) since Aug 17th 2012 and it was my second viewing of the movie. i would have to see how it is on a re-watch. either way, unless it takes a solid hit i don't see those two movies THAT far apart to make a claim like that to judge someones overall tastes in movies because like i always say you need to look at a wider range of movies and see how those people rated movies to see if their overall taste in movies is similar enough to yourself or not etc.

Many of the complaints about modern NC are correct. That being said, I still find the Walker brothers quite fascinating and I believe being exposed to a variety of opinions is a good thing.

The Walker brothers are not fascinating. They're pretentious blowhards. They walked into the new "It" film having already decided that they hated it and they did. They do the exact same thing with every film they watch. Doug Walker's "Top 20 Favorite Movies" alone shows how pretentious and snobbish he is.

Critics generally see everything as part of their job, even the stuff they don't want to.
If 85% of critics think a movie is "just alright", it will get an 85% on RT. I'm not at RT hater like some people, but calling them contrarians for that is silly. I thought "It" was just alright myself, and between fresh and rotten, I'd give it a fresh, but that doesn't mean I think it deserves 85%.

There is a Miles Davis quote I think should be engraved on a bronze placard outside of every movie theatre:
"Nobody ever built a statue of a critic."
Personally, I can find something to enjoy out of basically anyway. Modern movies take months/years of writing/production/filming, funded by millions of dollars and involving the labor of hundreds of people. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just have never been able to shit on an endeavor like that simply because I wasted ten bucks and two hours of my free time.
