The shorter format does 2 things. 1) it lessens the gap between the sides, so there’s more likely to be close matches than blow outs 2) it also lessens the likelihood of teams being bowled out, and full compliments get batted and bowled. Any cricket, decent cricket, being played outside of the traditional centres of the game is a good thing in my mind. I genuinely believe that Qualifying for the T20 World Cup should be done on a similar scale to the Football World Cup. Continents get a number of slots, and all bar the hosts have to qualify. England v Denmark - bring it on. West Indies v USA - excellent. Australia v PNG - awesome. It just raises the bar, and all of the games are full internationals anyways. Of course, stagger it a little bit (India v Kyrgyzstan might be a bridge too far) where appropriate. But why not ?

Australia still in Game Two v Saffers, but another very poor batting performance from.our middle order, though at least D'arvy Short got some runs. Ngidi 6-58 and well.and truly in the Aussie's heads late in innings. Turning 4-222 after 40 overs into 271 all out from a full 50.
Saffers 3-150 odd in reply in the 33rd over.

Malan a hundred and Saffers wun by 6 wickets with 9 balls to spare. Australia is not a good ODI team.

I remember South Australia used to have a bowler named Shane George. In the mid 90s they finally worked out the best way to use him was bring in him in the 32nd over, bowl his 10 at the death. He'd knock over 3 or 4, go for about 5 an over and win you the game.
Edit: my point being Ngidi is a similar case.

I live about 100 clicks from the SCG and it's pissing down rain here. Reason I bring it up is that WWT20 semi final between Saffers and Oz is supposed to happen there tonight and the forecast is not good. If it's washed out Saffers advance. I can hear Rohan asking why every sporting event isn't played in Melbourne as I write.

Australia creamed in the second ODI - 271 on a ground England made 399 on isn’t winning shit. At least someone in the middle order (being Darcy Short) made some runs. I get the feeling after the T20 WC, Australia is going to completely overhaul the white ball cricket squad. If you aren’t making the 2023 WC, you won’t be picked. So no Finch, Warner, Smith, Short, Maxwell, Lyon. Possibly Carey too. Josh Phillipe gets the gauntlets, and Mitchell Marsh the captaincy. Maybe.
As for the Women’s World Cup - they managed a game in the BBL final somehow, and it was raining worse than this !

As for the Women’s World Cup - they managed a game in the BBL final somehow, and it was raining worse than this ! British cricket pundits at the ground are giving the first match a 0.01% chance of being played! 4:51 is the latest they can start for a 10 over slog. Storm Esther - Bitch!

I’m at Central Station right now. About a mile from the SCG. There’s more chance of a swimming meet than a game of cricket unfortunately.

I hope it stips in time for thos evening. Bit of an anticlimax if both finalists get a bye. And commiserations to England. Shitty way to go out. It's stopped raining here in the Blue Mountains, though still thick cloud cover. Hopefully they get a game in tonight.

According to Cricinfo - they’re on. Australia batting first, and it’s still a full 20overs each

Australia going hard and 4-71 in the 11th over after losing 3-2. If this is a full 20 over game, these may not be the best tactics.

Australia sneak home against a desperate a South Africa. Feel terribly sorry for the Lionesses. Shit way of going out of a tournament.

Not entirely satisfactory ending to the semi final but, to be fair, huge effort to get 33 overs in. 98 off 13 overs didn't seem fair given Australia's mediocre total, but if the Saffers hadn't dilly-dally'd in the middle overs they'd have won in a canter.

Looking forward to the ICC women's t-20 world cup final. Australia being the best team in the world will be a favourite although they will miss Perry - an all-time great. The match would start at 12:30 pm India time. For India, the established batsman Mandhana and the captain H Kaur are not in the best of form but the 16 year old Shafali Verma just became the no.1 T-20 batsman in the world. I hope it would be an interesting game and I am not going to miss this one.
