quite the opposite! It's the cliche old "jerk goes through crisis thereby becoming good guy superhero" arc again that we saw with Irion Man (several times), Antman, Thor, Dr Strange etc.
One must be very shallow to find that deep.
It's better than DC's flat archetype approach. the concepts of archetypes and character arcs are not mutually exclusive and have no inner relation from a writing perspective.
If anything, DCEU was bashed (by intellectual halfwits like the bronyraptor though) that DC deviated too much from the preexisting character archetype (like Supes), thereby making Superman edgy, angsty and struggeling with himself (ending in an arc).
But this has been on the agenda since long and is advisable if you wish to move from a "flat", one-dimensional funny pages cartoon to a believable person, ...and to avoid Mary Sue writing.

For DC they are.

The problem is, they didn't just deviate from Superman's usual tropes, they basically dropped it. I didn't mind him from Man of Steel, because he at least still retained some of Superman's usual tropes of hope while giving him a bit of edge. But in BvS, by God, he was so dour and boring and depressing. The biggest crime is that Lois and Wonder Woman probably had more dialogue combined than Superman did. But he's so angst and depressing. There's nothing remotely interesting or likable about him. They completely dropped the ball with him and his death felt totally unearned and contrived.
