WB's WONDER WOMAN Sequel And Growing Oscar Buzz Have Patty Jenkins Very ExcitedA lot of scared MCU fans are saying the Academy won't nominate Wonder Woman for a Best Picture Oscar. I think right now it's still only a 50-50 possibility. What it'll come down to is the Golden Globes. Last year the Golden Globes for the 1st time ever nominated a CBM for Best Picture ( Deadpool, although that was for a Comedy category). If the Golden Globes nominates Wonder Woman for Best Picture in the Drama category, then the Academy (which has nominated 40 of the last 45 movies that the Golden Globe nominated for Best Picture) will most likely nominate Wonder Woman for a Best Picture Oscar. So Wonder Woman's chances of a Best Picture Oscar nomination really depend on the Golden Globes, which demonstrated last year that they are willing to nominate CBMs for Best Picture.

Yeah wrong board.
It was a good movie sure but it wasn't Oscar nomination level. If The Dark Knight doesn't get a nomination then Wonder Women certainly shouldn't.

Five dollars says he'll change his tune when it isn't announced as a best picture nominee. Nah, he'll still say "Well, Suicide Squad still won an Oscar, and the MCU hasn't won anything." Really, that's his trump card.

I could see that. It's not the first time a summer blockbuster was one of the nominees.

Really, that's his trump card. I think he might latch onto that WB was "pushing" for major Academy Award nominations and run with that as an indication of its quality. However, studios have done this before with other movies and they've never quite worked out the way they had hoped, in WB's case they tried getting 2012's The Dark Knight Rises nominated for roughly all Oscar categories - it wasn't nominated for anything, not even for technical categories.

Five dollars says he'll change his tune when it isn't announced as a best picture nominee. All it would do is cheapen the Oscars. Like others have said there have been far better comic book films so nominating this one makes no sense at all. It wouldn't be done on the merits of the film, so it's not a point to brag about if it does anyway. It would just look silly.

Five dollars says he'll change his tune when it isn't announced as a best picture nominee. That tune will be : The Sound of Silence WW was mediocre and flawed. It got easy reviews because it was made by a woman and heroes a woman. That's considered fresh in the critics eyes. SMH, Logan and GotG vol. 2 all three are superior movies. In all ways. Story, characters, effects.

If The Dark Knight doesn't get a nomination then Wonder Women certainly shouldn't. The Academy could nominate only 5 movies when The Dark Knight was released in 2008. Now the Academy can nominate up to 10 movies. Moreover, the Academy has nominated only 8 or 9 movies in every award year starting with 2010. So if they nominate only 8 or 9 other movies this year, that still leaves them with an open slot that they can use to nominate Wonder Woman without having to remove another movie.
And like I said in my OP, the Academy has nominated 40 of the last 45 movies that the Golden Globes nominated for Best Picture. So it all depends on the Golden Globes, which demonstrated last year that they're willing to nominate CBMs for Best Picture.

RT has Wonder Woman ranked as the #1 best superhero movie of all time: 50 Best Superhero Movies of All Time.

The Academy hasn't placed a superhero movie in Best Picture category since allowing more than five movies to be nominated. Deadpool didn't land in that category at the Oscars last year, so much for the Golden Globes.

And I wonder if I don't know, let's say Infinity War overtakes Wonder Woman in the top spot, what is he going to say? Is he going to go back to "Marvel bribes the critics?"

The Academy hasn't placed a superhero movie in Best Picture category since allowing more than five movies to be nominated. Because there hasn't been a CBM worthy of an Oscar nomination until Wonder Woman. Deadpool didn't land in that category at the Oscars last year, so much for the Golden Globes. Deadpool was nominated in the Comedy category. The Academy favors Drama over Comedy when it comes to Best Picture.
