If the franchise wants to really have some legs, it needs to get the focus away from Arnold, Linda, etc. and do its own thing with other characters. I don't want the franchise to have to rely on them nor "piggy-back" off of them to keep itself going.

I'm excited by this. I'm just not sure how they'll write in Arnold's advanced age. I didn't mind it in Genysis, but it just worked well with the plot (although I hated what they did with John Connor). Either way, I'm excited!

While I didn't like Terminator Salvation, I still think it was the film that took the franchise in a new direction by avoiding the time travel thing and setting the film in a post Judgment Day setting.

It did say it was going to be passing the baton. It also doesn't say how she will be in it(is she human?). Same with Arnie-with what they did in T2 with Robert Patrick, I'm sure they can do something about Arnie's look.

Cant Cameron just let this rest. He is closing in on billionaire status, which Im sure he will reach before the last Avatar sequel.

i have a feeling i will like T3 more than this one. That's because i actually like T3 and don't care at all about what came after

Kind of funny to see Cameron so desperate to erase everything after T2, especially after saying how great Genisys is.

I am a huge fan of the first two, but I don't see how a woman who hasn't been relevant since 1991 is going to save this franchise.I would love to be proven wrong, especially since she's arguably the top female action character of all time,, but I don't see it.

No franchise can just be allowed to rest in peace, huh?

Nope-because the companies are in a death spiral.
Their fixation on brands and copyright protection are part of it. Disney is among the most aggressive in wanting to eliminate the public domain. So even if someone wanted to do something not based on a brand name, they would probably be slapped with a copyright violation.

Returning casting, at least to me, doesn't automatically guarantee an upcoming sequel will be great. Same thing applies to Jeff Goldblum for Jurassic World 2 as it does for Hamilton. When was the last time Jeff Goldblum was relevant?

When was the last time Jeff Goldblum was relevant? Agreed. One needn't look any further than the two Terminator movies Arnold was in after T2. It's not even guaranteed to be good if James Cameron directed it. He's not the same director he was just as Schwarzenegger and Hamilton are the same actors. The stars need to align, so to speak, in order for a movie to succeed.
