You are watching it, I assume. What do you think? Would you recommend it to a general audience? OR is it more niche?

I rather enjoyed it, which I didn't really expect to.
It's really not the show I expected going in. What I expected was that it would be about how the church elected what was essentially another Borgia, a guy who completely abused the position for his own personal gain in a very cynical way.
But it's really not that. The pope is certainly controversial, and appears cynical in some respects, but he's also clearly trying to do what he thinks is right. There are times he comes across as an atheist, but over time you realise that it's not that he's playing the religious game for his own ends so much as that he's genuinely struggling with his beliefs and how best to follow them. And so are most of the people around him, for that matter. The scene where he debates abortion with his Cardinal Spencer, for example, was an awesome example of two guys genuinely grappling with what is the right thing to do.
I also find it intriguing that the show implies on a couple of occasions that yes, there really is a god and that he's chosen this guy to do some serious stuff for him - and is willing to provide the odd miracle to help him get it done.
Throw onto that the occasional surrealist touches here and there, and the weird but rather interesting musical choices the show makes, and I gotta say, I'm glad I watched it.

I quite enjoyed it. I was taken aback and thoroughly loved the presentation, the clothing (I mean, Armani, hello!), the symbolism, the acting and messages were well thought-out. Yes it's provocative, in a refreshing way. I felt like Pius said things and did things many people would have wanted to do but were intimidated to.
I am sorry that it was a short lived series. But it will live on. Stunning!

Honestly, i didn't like it at first but its definitely growing on me. I REALLY miss The Tudors and The Borgias and it reminds me of those shows in some ways.

Meh. I hoped it would be more controversial and in your face but it was sort of lame. I still haven't watched the finale but I will eventually. I doubt it will change my mind about the utter mediocrity of the series though. Maybe if I were a Catholic I would be more impressed or upset instead of indifferent.
