"Computer, huh? Let's go trash the fucker."A small group of party going teenagers ends up turning their local shopping mall into an playground during the late closing hours, however, the fun stops when they soon realizes that they are trapped inside the mall, alongside its newest high-tech security guards, who do not take too kindly when it comes to dealing with any intruders or humans. Another fun filled, campy piece of pure entertaining, b-movie 80s cheese directed by Jim Wynorski and that stars notable scream queens such as Kelli Maroney, Barbara Crampton and Suzee Slater. I really dig this kind of goofy, fun and feel-good 80s horror films, that comes with a bit of sci-fi, comedy, and also packs a nice portion of tits and ass and a very likeable main character, where I thought Kelli did a fine job as a bit of a "Sarah Connor" anti-heroine, and she looked even much better as the "next-door-girl" without much of the make-up and all that, than her usual snotty-bimbo act, and it was fun seeing how she went from the "mousy" girl and ended up taking charge when it got bad. Dick Miller shows up in a small cameo, always nice and I thought it was fun to see him getting all angry about his new robotic "co-workers", then we have John Terlesky, I think he did another movie for Jim Wynerski (Deathstalker II) a year later, but here he was more of a sleazy sterotypical, high-school jock/bully kind of guy, but a fun one. Tony O'Dell (I had no idea he was in two of the Karate Kid movies) does also a good job as the geeky Ferdy, who seems to caught on well with his date for the night, Alison (Kelli Maroney). All in all, Chopping Mall aka Killbots is another one of those great and fun little 80s b horror film who makes great use of shopping centers, and one I can watch over and over again, and never go tired of.

A lot of fun, especially the exploding head shot.

Yes, I almost forgot about that one. Great scene. I love the total, feel-good and awesome cheesy 80s opening scene of the shopping mall, and I think it might be the same one that was used in Commando (1985) and later in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).

It’s not the best horror, but it’s certainly fun.

I really dig this kind of goofy, fun and feel-good 80s horror films, that comes with a bit of sci-fi, comedy Me too. And these synth soundtracks. As you guys mentioned before, the classic head exploding scene:

Yeah, the use of the heavy/fat sounds of the synth-score/main theme is classic 80s, and I sure do miss these kind of goofy b-movie combination of horror/slasher and sci-fi/teen-comedy. I wonder how much that was really cut out, as I think the original runtime is for about 77 minutes, while it says on Wikipedia that the original relase was almost 96 minutes. But then again, what so fun about Chopping Mall is the great pace, it moves on all the time and with those extra 20 minutes added (not sure how much gore/nudity might have been cut out) but still, those extra time could easily screwed up the pace and made the film into, well not as enjoyable as the 77 minute version.
As mentioned, the film was made inside my favorite 80s movie shopping mall, The Galleria or Sherman Oaks Galleria, were so many great and fun films have been made or filmed at, such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), Night of the Comet (1984), Commando (1985), T2: Judgment Day (1991) and of course most of Chopping Mall (1986).

I just revisited this one via Amazon a few weeks ago. Cheesy retro fun.
