The teaser trailer is grossly misleading. This isn't a horror movie. It's a psychological drama, and a poor one at that.
It takes a very minimalist approach regarding cast and story, partly due to a low budget, but nothing is explained, elements are hinted at and never played out (eg sexual tension between Travis and Kim), and the resolution is very weak. There is nothing special about the red door, despite the focus on it during the teaser trailer. The female characters are badly underwritten, even Travis doesn't have much to do. There's an air of pointlessness about the movie.
Open Grave did this sort of thing WAY better. Hell, even The Battery was a better movie, and at a fraction of the budget.

I was planning on watching it. I was aware that there was a bit of a mislead in the marketing, but when that sort of thing is done well, I think it can be really compelling, and there is good talent involved, especially in the cast. I appreciate the warning I suppose. It's a shame because it looked very intriguing and the reviews were good. I may watch it still, eventually, but I will think twice now as I did not especially care for Open Grave.
How was The Battery? I was supposed to work on it and a buddy of mine is still credited as a producer, but got screwed out of a credit and money that he was owed because some of the guys were real dicks. Because of that, I have had an attitude against watching it, and I definitely won't pay for it. But I'm still curious and likely will scope it out at some point.

It wasn't what I expected at all, but I still kinda liked it. Not sure why the critics thought it was great...
