So are folk still doing it this year? Is someone "hosting"?
Apologies if there are threads about this already; I haven't been around this board in months and couldn't find anything about it.

I'm all for an October Challenge. There's no way I would win, since I can't watch many movies, but I'd be happy to participate.

Could someone provide a summary of how the October Challenge works? What are the rules?

Nice one Squelchy. Can't wait for midnight Saturday to kick off. Haven't watched a horror for 11 months, just Neill Blomkamp 3 great horror shorts this Summer, Rakka, Firebase and Zygote.

The idea is to watch at least 31 horror movies during the month of October, and at least 16 of them have to be first time viewings.
The movie should be feature length, although I don't know what could constitute feature length. I think, but don't quote me on this, that it would be at least 50 minutes in duration.
For the most part, TV episodes don't count, unless it's something like 'Masters of Horror', if I recall correctly.
I don't know how many veterans of the old IMDb horror board are here; surely someone else could go into more detail regarding rules and requirements.

Hey_Sweden is pretty spot on.
The gist of the October horror challenge
Watch 31 horror movies and 16 of them must be first time viewings. That's the bare minimum, but you can watch as much as you want during the month. Starts 12am October 1st & finishes 6am (I think?) November 1st.
The Basic Rules;
Movies must be horror, as listed on IMDB. If that's not the case, but you think it's horror, then use your best judgement.
Runtime must be around 50 minutes long.
No documentaries.
I'm iffy on horror TV shows. I remember Masters of Horror would show up on lists. I think other shows you had to watch an entire season for it to count for one.
Short films do not count unless they are part of a collection/or feature length film.
You can only count a movie once.

I have done it twice (on letterboxd, not on IMDB board) and I would happily do it again! I doubt I will be able to watch 31 flicks this October, but I definitely try to watch as much as possible.

I've never done this before, but I would like to participate. So I assume once October is over we all have to post on here what we watched? (probably a stupid question, but anyway)

It might make it easier if you keep track of what you watch, as you watch it. That way you won't struggle to remember what you watched.
On the old IMDb board there used to be a "place holder" thread where everybody could reserve a spot and, from there, regularly update their list.

That sounds like a good idea, instead of having to write 31 mini-reviews along with trying to remember the ratings, all at once, or something like that.
Anyway, count me in.
I have never done one of these October challenges before, so I would love to participate. Sounds like fun and also it would be interesting to follow up on and read about what kind of movies the other users are watching and rating. There might be some days where I am not sure if I can watch a lot of movies, so I guess if one day = (zero movies) one can still make it work by watching 2 or 3 movies the next day, to even things out?

Delighted there's interest in this.
On the old IMDb placeholder thread we normally had to delete the initial post because of a-holes reporting it; is that a risk here too?

Fortunately, trolling doesn't seem to be nearly as much of a problem here.
I'm not sure if that would work, deleting the initial post in the thread.
