"They call me Dick, but you can call me... Dick."Jonathan Graves (Peter Liapis) a young man, unaware of the powerful gift that he has been "blessed" with and whom along with his girlfriend is about to move into an old family mansion, which he has just inherit. And to celebrate this rare occasion, Jonathan decides to gather around all of his friends for a good time. However, things end up going way out of hand, when the host suddenly decides to throw a little ceremony, and one where they are to be visited by a bunch of strange looking, small and evil demonic creatures from the other side, better known as the Ghoulies!Ok, not exactly the cream of the crop when it comes to 80s horror franchise, however I do have soft spot for these kind of Charles Band/Full Moon Productions cheesy, fun filled b-movies, and I actually had a much more fun time watching the first one (1984) than other b-movie "classics" such as the Trolls movies. The acting is goofy as hell, but it is a kind of party feel-good vibe to them, specially the first film and which features many of the sterotypical characters in horror films. Michael Des Barres delivers a fun baddie role, while we also meet up with Jack Nance and the beautiful Mariska Hargitay in this cheesy low-budget Charles Band title. I enjoyed the first and the third film, while the second one, however did not go down all that good (with me), and I have still not seen the fourth film, but if you like your 80s horror with a lot of cheese, this movie just might be worthy a go or two.

This film is so goofy, but hard to dislike. Even though it's slow in its build-up, I do enjoy the atmosphere of the mansion and crazy third act. That's interesting to read you disliked the second film. I haven't watched the sequels, but always thought the second film is the most loved of the franchise? I know one of my old school buddies thinks it's easily the best of the lot. It was through him, lending me his VHS copy, I saw the original for the first time.

I have not seen the second one since autumn 2011 (I think) but there was something about it which did not sit that well with me, as the more goofy/campy first one was such a likeable/ridiculous movie, it kind of overshadowed the sequel. I have still not made a list over what movies I will watch through the October Callenge (beside 16 unseen), so maybe I might just sign upon Ghoulies II, as it seems like that one is (as you said) often mentioned as the "best" of the franchise.
