I'm don't mean that in a bad way as I'm a feminist myself. But politics/pandering to current Liberal agenda need to stay out of the Oscars. I think it's great that Patty Jenkins, who had very little in her roster other than Monster, was able to make a successful almost 200million dollar film and become the biggest summer hit ever! But does that really warrant Best Director? What does that have to do with how she directed and filmed the movie?? There were only a few scenes that were noticeable and well shot like the No-Man land scene, but beyond that, the blue tint isn't anything new and there are some very obvious scenes of CGI.
Same thing with Best Picture. I think it's great Gal Gadot really brought the character to life. I absolutely adore her and I thoroughly enjoyed her journey of being naive at first and everything and it's a fun film to watch, but tell how ot really warrant Best Picture beyond that it's such a huge achievement for female actresses?! A Best Picture film has to be almost perfect from start to end. How is Ares so great? What was so amazing about the CGI stuff in sky/CGI fire in the 3rd act that we haven't seen before in other superhero films??
All it is, is just partisan politics. If it does get a nomination, then great, I got nothing against that, but no one can sit here and argue that Wonder Woman is a masterpiece and partisanship and tokenism would play a big part in why it got nominated or even won.

The funny thing about this whole thing is that the movie was nothing a feminist would make.
A feminist would make something laughably political, like the latest Ghostbusters.
WW was a good movie that didn't portray every man as a rapist idiot and the female lead wasn't an unstoppable, perfect being. Those things alone make it nothing close to feminist propaganda.
However, the Academy is VERY liberal, so it could definitely influence the selection process just because the lead is a female.

It wasn't an almost $200 million film. The budget was only $149 million. All it is, is just partisan politics. no one can sit here and argue that Wonder Woman is a masterpiece and partisanship and tokenism would play a big part in why it got nominated or even won. Sounds like you're getting worried that Wonder Woman will be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar so you're already starting to make excuses. |

Maybe. I still think that The Dark Knight deserved it more than Wonder Woman. Whether or not TDK deserved it more isn't important. Wonder Woman isn't competing against TDK. Wonder Woman is competing only against other movies released this year.
It's like comparing Super Bowl champions in the 2010s with the 1986 Bears or the great 49ers' teams of the 1980s or the great Cowboys' teams of the 19990s. The 1986 Bears and the 1980's 49ers and the 19990's Cowboys were much better teams than all of the Super Bowl champions in the 2010s, but the teams in the 2010s don't have to compete against the 1986 Bears or the 1980's 49ers or the 1990's Cowboys.

Wonder Woman probably won't win the Best Picture Oscar because the Academy won't award Best Picture to a CBM, but with the maximum number of Best Picture nominations increased from 5 to 10 after The Dark Knight was snubbed in 2008, there's a very high chance that Wonder Woman will get nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

No it wont. Its not good enough. Sure it does happen and I would like nothing more for WW to win but like you said a CBM getting best picture is a far stretch. Looking down the list of best picture winners, the last big blockbuster to win best picture was Return of the King in 2003. This goes to show that the Academy rarely leaves its comfort zone. |

I highly doubt it will get up on the basis of it being a 'female' lead comic book movie since we know how much Hollywood hates strong female leads and has gone out of their way to make the comic book movie genre male only. Despite all the records 'Wonder Woman' broke for a female lead movie and succeeding when people spent months putting it down online and saying it should never have been made 'cause it had a female lead - ohh and the complaints about Gal's boobs not being big enough (loved those) the only way it would even be considered for an award is if Warner Bros paid them or Gal did some backstage 'favours' for males in high positions.Yeah. Pull the other leg, it plays jingle bells. A large percentage of online male comic book fans especially ones who write things like that to start off a paragraph are male chauvinist pigs. The second you used your imaginary 'feminism agenda' you showed your true colours. "I am not a racist but it really annoys me that the Black Lives Matter movement is forcing their agenda on us with shows like Luke Cage..."  Preach sister. Also make one of those incredibly cute cartoon animals you often post mock him somehow. Why do so many of the mcu posters here do that "I thought WW was good BUT..." then proceed to try and tear it apart? It's obvious those posters hate WW and probably women in general because they are terrified by them. |

No it doesn't...no way can what she did be considered one of the 5 best directing jobs of the last year....plus the we have 3 months of Oscar bait to be released as well Any nomination for her as director would have been nothing more than tokenism, fortunately for the Academy they may not have to stoop to such a level as Kathryn Bigelow and Sophia Coppola have both put in impressive turns as director As for Wonder Woman as best film..if that got nominated for BP and Logan didn't it would be a travesty |

Yeah... I'd have to agree. I hate to say it, because I actually loved the Wonder Woman movie, but there's nothing about it that sets it apart from other great cbms that all didn't win or even get nominated for Oscars. The only thing it did different was that it's the first successful female superhero movie and it's the first directed by a female director. And if those are the only reasons this is being considered for an Oscar whereas other cbms which were just as good if not better were snubbed then yeah, there's a problem.

Wonder Woman isn't even the best CBM of this year. If it receives an Oscar nomination then something is rotten in the state of Denmark. There's nothing new there though. The Oscars have been subject to bias, corruption and bribery for years.  |

The Academy isn't going to nominate 2 CBMs in the same year so only 1 of them would get a nomination. Wonder Woman checks off more of the boxes that the Academy looks for when considering movies for Best Picture than Logan does. |
