Michelle Williams the female lead in 'Venom'?

First of all Homecoming was better than both Amazing Spider-Man movies and Spider-Man 3, and is probably the best Spider-Man movie to date, Raimi's first two films only surpass it on purely cinematic terms. 

Secondly, Sony DOES have it in their rights to use Spider-Man outside of the MCU, which is why they're making this Venom movie as well as Black Cat/Silver Sable and possibly Sinister Six. It is highly suspected that they're going to make use of Holland's contract and have him make an appearance in either of these films to sell the idea that they all take place within the MCU except not because Marvel has no hand in their development. Hence why Amy Pascal said in an interview that the Venom movie will not be "set" in the MCU but in "the same reality", which can mean two things - 1) By "the same reality" she means they take place within the same universe, yes, but they do not interact with other characters outside of the ones appearing in the Spider-Man movies or play an integral role in the overall MCU. Or 2) Its an attempt to gain interest in the film, but nothing else. Most believe its the latter, as the first one doesn't seem like the type of decision Sony would make these days based on their track record. 

Because they still have faith in a shared universe built entirely around Spider-Man characters that can rival their competition, even though their launch point only resulted in another reboot with a compromise with Marvel Studios/Disney. 

Personally I've never gotten the appeal of a Venom movie, I understand he's a popular character and all but why the fascination to the point that you'd want to do a stand alone film with zero ties to Spider-Man? Believe it or not this is not the first time they tried to do something like this, a Venom has been in development for more than twenty years and I do believe David Goyer once penned a script for it. 

I don't get the appeal of a Sinister Six movie, either. By now the premise is so worn out I can't think of how it can bring anything new to the table other than have Spider-Man villains. 

Homecoming was definitely not like a Disney Channel movie( Could you be more descriptive of this, as its pretty vague). 

Neither Amazing Spider-Man 1 or 2 were better than Homecoming. 

And TASM 2 was more serious? Oh, you mean like The Green Beavis and Butt-Head Goblin? The Rhino who acted like he popped out of a Looney Tunes short and his clunky looking mech suit? The overly stereotypical Russian scientist who only needed to say "Moose and Squirrel" to complete the whole package? And the creepy, obsessive Doctor Manhattan clone with the same nutty personality of Jim Carrey's Riddler that was called 'Electro'? Oh yeah, more serious the better...

Looks like you haven't been paying attention the news. Sony wants Venom to be an over-the-top horror/comedy hybrid - Hence, why they hired the guy who directed Zombieland for the movie. 

Don't forget about Green Beavis-Goblin, I tell you I kept expecting him to say "Give me teepee!". 

So basically you have no real counter argument, the best you can do is say "Homecoming felt like a straight up kids movie, ASM was way better and more serious." Both me justanaveragejoe offered what I like to consider are effective criticisms on your whole "TASM 2 was more serious" statement, and you've barely scratched that  in discussion. 

So you trust a company that has been struggling financially the past few years and are constantly making very questionable and concerning decisions with their movies and are run by two very incompetent execs with very murky history - Tom Rothman and Amy Pascal ? Yeah, you really know how to pick a winning team, how much did you spend on The Emoji Movie?
