KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE was a parody; KINGSMAN PART 2: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE is a regular comedy. Neither genre is better nor worse, but sequels must be consistent. There are still fun and creative action sequences and good performances (Pedro Pascal's is the best). Julianne Moore tries, but POPPY ADAMS is the kind of antagonist that spends more time giving orders than acting (and she gets defeated in the lamest way possible). You might say the same thing about VALENTINE, but he did some things on his own. One of them was killing HARRY. That was a satisfying death. No! I'm not saying I was happy! On the contrary, it was powerfully sad. I meant that it was filmed in a way that the audience could be sure that he was dead. That the makers couldn't try to fool us and then reveal that he was alive. Here, he comes back to life, which ruins the emotional impact. This "We'll do anything for a plot twist" attitude bothers me. I assume
MERLIN (who steps on a mine to kill POPPY's guards and save his friends) will come back in the next installment. By the way, didn't the guards know exactly where each mine was? Why did they
come near him? The 1st installment made it clear that EGGSY would sleep with a different woman in every new adventure but that his true love would be a co-worker (just like JAMES BOND). A lot of people complained that the way in which PRINCESS TILDE threw herself at him was sexist (yeah, that was the joke!). I think that made Matthew Vaughn (who's also the director and producer) and Jane Goldman re-write the script. Now, EGGSY & TILDE are in a serious relationship and ROXY is just a friend who dies during the 1st act (the way in which the scene was filmed opened the door for one of the "he/she survived" twists I mentioned before). One of EGGSY's friends enters the room where he keeps his weapons. He puts on a pair of glasses and EGGSY can see what he's doing while he's having dinner with TILDE and her parents. EGGSY yells at him and the Swedish royalty don't understand what's going on. This trained spy doesn't keep a room like that locked? And he does something only an idiot in a romantic comedy would do? The scene ends before we see how EGGSY explains why he was yelling and... it's never brought up again. Seriously?! Even a generic rom-com would show the consequences. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 showed that rejuvenating actors through CGI can look realistic. Now I'm thinking maybe it was luck (if it was, it's probably because Kurt Russell was hiding his eyes with sunglasses) because of how weird Colin Firth looks in a flashback. EGGSY has a small condom on his finger and he has to... well, put it inside a woman named CLARA, because it will leave a tracking device. Why doesn't she feel the condom while he's caressing her stomach? EGGSY and WHISKEY (a Statesman (the American counterpart of the Kingsmen)) are on a gondola lift that's spinning very fast. WHISKEY's hat stays on his head the whole time and, when they both get out of the lift, they're not even a little bit dizzy. No spy training program can make you avoid that. MERLIN constantly tells EGGSY that he can't act based on emotions. That's exactly what he does when he kills CHARLIE (he's POPPY's right hand now) who, in that moment, was unable to move. It wasn't self-defense anymore. POPPY's plan is to contaminate all the drugs in the world so that people who use them get paralyzed and eventually died. TILDE smokes weed, so she's in danger. The heroes save the day and TILDE can move again. However, she spent at least a full day standing up. Shouldn't she have stumbled a little? Didn't she pee herself? During the final fight, WHISKEY is willing to sacrifice his electric lasso, even though he's the only person in the world who has it. Come on! He couldn't be
that desperate to win! 7/10
