The review embargo has lifted at 5pm EST, soon the first reviews will pour in. I predict the film will end up around 75%-80% fresh, possibly more (hopefully not less) and an average rating of 7/10.

Sounds about right. I'm hopeful for this one though. The cast is good and the visuals look really nice.

As of now, it's sitting fresh with a 81% rating;based off 31 reviews too. Average rating is 6.1 so what does that mean for later next week once it comes out? I think this could end up like Pacific Rim with a solid and respectable rating in the low 70s.

What.....Pacific Rim had a 70 Rotten Tomato Score? I'm confused now.

That just shows how bought and paid for Rotten Tomatoes is. I'd give Pacific Rim a 60% tops. Originally I thought Skull Island was going to suck beyond belief. That first trailer was THE WORST. But I just saw the final trailer and now it looks much better.

I don't think it's bought and paid for. How many critics score on rotten tomatoes? I think that would be too big of a paper trail and a huge story would have broken out about it years ago. I do, however, believe that critics can have herd mentality. They may feel like they should like a movie they don't, and give it a positive score anyways. The opposite is also true. Give contrarian score to be different or get more clicks.

I don't think it's the herd mentality as much as it's fear itself. In the old days if you were a critic for a publication -- newspaper, magazine, even television -- you said you piece and that was that. Now, with social media, there's an instant onslaught WHICH YOUR BOSSES can see. If you keep slaying films that people love and the boss catches wind of your arrogance -- out you go. It's like the public now owns the critics who must tread more lightly for fear of reprisal. The feedback that publishers now have on the web could be deadly to a critic who often bucks the trend.

Yes, this is to a degree what I think. I don't think most critics feel so much pressure that it 100% changes their reviews, but more so, it may slightly skew their review in a different direction than they may have originally gone. (again, this is a handful of critics. Not a wide conspiracy) I think some of this pressure is actually subconscious. I read a lot of reviews, and over time, some reviewers look back wonder why they reviewed a certain movie positively or negatively and think differently. Look at the pressure for critics to review Oscar bait films. There is a backlash if they review a movie such as Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Lion, Fences, Jackie, Hidden Figures, negatively. They may be seen as "not getting it" or being "biased" against black films or LGBTQ films when the critic may have not liked the film for other reasons. Also, critics fear they could lose credibility if they give high reviews to films that typically grade low amongst the critics. Genre films usually take the biggest hit (R rated comedies, horrors, action flick, etc) I don't think it is a conspiracy, just subconscious pressure. That is why I said herd mentality. It's like living in the PC world we live in today. Don't think how you feel, think how you are supposed to feel. Or face the social backlash. Anyways, hope I got my point across with sounding conspiratorial.

Without a Jessica Lange or Naomi Watts leading the way this monkey is doomed for failure.

I'ld have thought 50% or so, based on the trailer I saw Wednesday. Still, it wasn't my type of movie to begin with, no matter what the rating is, I'll never go watch it.
