Since there are threads for Xena and now Young Hercules, I figured that the parent show should have one.

It's the one that started it all, and I like it the most of all of them. It's just really a shame that the people involved couldn't come to an agreement and make a complete final season....

Oh, I loved Hercules: The Legendary Journeys as a kid. I think I also became a fan of Greek mythology because of this show... I didn't see the entire series when it originally aired. I was there from the beginning, but for some reason, I thought the fifth season finale -- Revelations -- was the series finale at the time. It had that kinda vibe to it, I guess. I didn't even realize there was a sixth season until I started collecting it on DVD, haha. But it was a fun show, yeah

Season 6 has some fun episodes, but it's obviously incomplete.

Even if they couldn't get another three years, they could've at least delivered on a killer final season. Six episodes makes it just feel...unfinished.

If it wasn't for Hercules, a lot of things may never have happened. Tapert/Raimi might have never set up in NZ (where they've made every TV series since then). Who knows if we would have had Legend of the Seeker, Spartacus, or Ash vs. Evil Dead had it not been for Hercules?
Not only that, WETA workshop got a lot of exposure due to their work on Herc/Xena, and they went on to do LOTR. They're one of the most popular special effects companies now.
Today's industry owes a lot to Hercules.

Kevin Sorbo had a stroke while making Kull that could be part of the reason, the storylines started to get way off track after he left Ireland in Season 5 and you could tell he was just not into it and this lost me but until then they have some of the funniest characters ever written for an adventure series.
Still into it much longer than Zena, could only hold on for two seasons then it got old and repetitive, I contribute Hercules longevity to Kevin Sorbo's outstanding charisma along with his easy-going manner of acting.

The main reason was Sorbo wanted to take the role on Andromenda. He says he would have been willing to finish a season of Hercules, but Raimi/Tapert wanted three years or nothing.

I watched it when it first premiered as part of "Action Pack" the other series were a Midnight Run, Kung Fu-type story..forgot what else, but it was obvious that Hercules would be the show that outlasted them just from the first tv movie.
Lucy Lawless also was a stand out in her first appearance in one of the sequel movies and she held her own even in a bedroom scene with Anthony Quinn! I knew she would go places. She would have been better for the lead in Cutthroat Island.
It is a terrible blasphemous version of Greek mythology, and I groaned at the NZ locations for being so anti-Mediterranean, but it still amused. I was thinking the other day of the actress who portrayed Aphrodite with a Valley Girl interpretation!

If you want to see a cool carry-over of the shows unique humor and back-lot New Zealand charm, watch the short-lived series 'Jack of All Trades' also produced by Sam Rami and starring Bruce Campbell,
Every episode of Hercules with Campbell's -Autolycus the King of Thieves are some of the high-points of the series.
Just as every episode of 'Jack of All Trades' with Verne Troyer as Napoleon are hilarious and not to be missed.

I also liked Cleopatra 2525. Honestly, I've enjoyed every series Tapert/Raimi have done since then. They've done all their series in New Zealand since Hercules....

Now why did you have to go and paste that pic of Aphrodite Like I don't have so many other things to watch, I now have to go and get my Hercules DVD's back out-LOL Cleopatra 2525, what happened to short-cut these awesome attempts to create unique and zany series like this. I know that 'Jack of All Trades' got caught up in some complaints about the bawdy humor that fox forced them to tone it down, then the loyal viewers like me just said 'What? the...happened?" you can see a startling change in the last three episodes as if it was not even the same show. Think Firefly- another short-lived classic, was also misunderstood until too late, why don't they just give them time to find an audience especially when they have a loyal core of viewers. Wonder if Hercules would survive for so long in today's media climate? though it did have the ratings, lucky for us.

I'm tempted to do the rewatch with Xena, in the order they aired together, so I can get all the crossover references. But, it's a big commitment. Hell, I can even watch Jack of All Trades and Cleopatra 2525 along side season 6 of Xena if I'm really committed!

'Jack of all trades' about 20? episodes- won't take very long, some really clever and dirty stuff in there that they got away with for a short-time. Will have to think over some of my favorite Herc episodes here. I know that of the special effects the Centaurs and the Giant hold up pretty well. The first season is a little rough with the cgi but it tends to fit the tone of the series and you just go with it because most of the story-lines are good enough to carry you past it till they get the effects in line.

I moved, not to long ago, and one of the first boxes I opened happened to have my box-sets of the XENA and HERCULES VHS tapes. I had the entire XENA series plus all-but the final season of HERCULES. I remember, when it was still airing, I used to rush home to get there in time for a rerun of SCARECROW & MRS.KING then it'd be HERC and XENA, before I worked on dinner anything else that needed done around the house. Absolutely would not be bothered the day those three episodes aired (I think it was Wens or Mon, each week, where I lived at the time?).
Then, flash-forward a few years, and I am flipping through my SciFi magazine when they have this picture of Craig Horner as Richard Cypher/Rahl, and the article said that all the behind the scenes people and some of the actors, were from HERCULES and XENA, as well as YOUNG HERCULES (which had the future Fili of the house of Durin). I had read the first book and was so-so on it, but when I saw who the behind the scenes talent was for the show, I was sold.
Anyone remember the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's LOST WORLD show that was on around the same time as HERCULES and XENA? It had like all the same guest-stars and the guy who played Challenger was always playing warlords and aged-kings on XENA. I remember one of the actors' names was William Snow, and I think he played Lord Roxston.

One of my favourite moments in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys was from Season 4, episode 15, 'Yes, Virginia, There Is a Hercules', when the ‘writers’ of the show (played by actors from the show) came up with what Callisto and Ares would do after they’d succeeded in killing Hercules & Xena (at least I think that was it).
