When my Dad passed away a few years ago he left a stack of Louis L'Amour books behind taller than a mule traders wagon.
Now, I've never been one to think too hard about the old west, but I gather he was good at those kinds of stories?
I thought I'd keep them, damn.. did that guy write a book every week?
First one I'm reading is called 'Kiowa Trail'. Enjoyable stuff so far, a big gun battle taking shape for the climax.

Read loads of them as a kid. Along with the "Sudden" westerns.

My dad had a bunch as well. I've read most of them and they were enjoyable.

I haven't really read much of him, so I really shouldn't say this.
But my impression is that once you've read three of his books, you've read them all.

I read a couple. The prose is workmanlike and the result isn't terrible, but I can't tell you what they were called or what happened.

One of the few cases of liking the movies better (Then again, who wouldn't prefer hearing Sam Elliot over their own voice in their head?), but the ones I read weren't bad. Kind of simple, but not in a bad way.

A few years ago I found myself going through all the Terry Pratchett books, but I don't think I'll do the same with L'Amour.. not enough humor.

Haven't read L'Amour. Is he similar to Zane Grey?

Haven't read L'Amour. Is he similar to Zane Grey? Yes, I think so. There were a few Zane Grey books mixed in with all the Louis L'Amour.

I remember being shocked to find out that Gone To Texas the book Josey Wales is based on was written by an ex KKK leader. I just looked him up. 'Don Wright'. Did an internet search with his name and 'KKK', didn't get anything. Not sure about racists in America these days, it's a word that gets thrown around a lot. Disagree with someone, BLAM!!! you're suddenly called a racist.
