sdrew13163 's kickass thread about Batman: The Animated Series got me thinking about different depictions of Gotham City -- and how the way they present it on the 90s animated series is, by far, my personal favorite incarnation of Gotham: (As I also said in the other thread, my vote for second place would go to Tim Burton's Gotham in '89 and Returns.) I don't strongly dislike any of the ways we've seen Gotham over the years, but if I had to pick a least favorite it would be the Nolan flicks' treatment of Gotham; sorry, Chi-towners! So, that got me thinking: what about you guys? What're your personal favorite (and least favorite) onscreen depictions of Gotham City? I was gonna post a poll, but I invariably would've forgotten a half dozen of the different times Gotham's been shown either in live action or cartoon form. For the purposes of this discussion, everything from the absolute earliest adaptation of Batman -- the West show, presumably? -- right up through that Lego movie they shat out last winter counts as fair game. Thoughts?

There is only one Gotham and it's the Burton/90s Gotham, this was a town with it's own gothic identity and look unlike the more generic or cartoonish depictions in other Batfilms and media.

Man, that Burton Gotham is so gritty and hard it's crazy. So much of Returns seems to take place at night (in the dark), and yet somehow the city looks dodgier, more dangerous, and frankly more Romantic in the sweeping broad daylight shots we get in '89. Sub-question: would you move there? I personally have about six panic attacks driving on the highway around most big cities, so it prolly wouldn't be for me. Plus, I would undoubtedly get -- if you'll permit me the Jar Jar parlance -- "robbed and crunched" on Day One.

E.g., Naboo is not my fav SW planet, but for living and moving there it's great, better than Mustafar or Hoth or Tatooine et al.

I'd go Hoth, as long as I didn't have to ever leave the base/compound. I would hit up UberEATS' Hoth branch and have my roast wampa sandwich delivered on a tauntaun. Although the food on Tatooine might be a hell of a lot better, if more expensive:

Definitely Burton's Gotham! As much as I like Nolan's Batman films, it's basically Chicago and Pittsburgh mashed together.

I gotta agree. Batman: TAS' Gotham is the best. The artistry is so badass.
Burton's Gotham comes in at second.
Although I think Nolan's trilogy is one of the great cinematic achievements of all time, I think his depiction of Gotham was subpar.

The Animated Series Gotham is the best one...
But, despite the insanity, the TV show "Gotham" is a pretty good version of the city itself.

I'd probably agree with the consensus on Burton's uber-gothic Gotham. Not great Batman films, but great Gotham ones. Followed by TAS.
I'm not a Midwestern architect so TDK didn't immediately jump out as "Chicago" to me, just some city, which was actually kind of nice for a change. Plus it had that cool blue look.
Batman Begins' Gotham is alright, but the CG modifying is a little obvious and distracting. Don't remember anything standing out about Snyder's.
Then forget everything I said about TDK when it comes to Rises - the Pittsburgh and NYC stuff was a lot worse than some random streets in Chicago.
Worst is the gay nightclub Gotham from Schumacher's, and I don't know how that's being debated.
