They're not laugh tracks, they're live studio audiences.

They're not laugh tracks, they're live studio audiences. Some use laugh tracks only and others use a combination. None nowadays use live audiences only.

At least they no long make shows on location, like M*A*S*H for example, with laugh tracks. Are we supposed to believe the "live studio audience" went to Korea and there's some bleachers off to the side somewhere?

Laugh tracks/studio audiences have never bothered me. 90% of the time I don't even notice them.

do some sitcoms still use FUCKING, STUPID and EXTREMELY-ANNOYING laugh-tracks?!?! Most sitcoms do actually have a live audience. And the laughing you hear is the audince not a tape. Anyway audience or laugh track does not bother me as i hardly ever really notice them. that is all

That's the only thing I don't like about John Oliver (if they're a "live studio audience", why do we never see them?). Real audience laughter is fine, but a laugh track is more distracting than anything.

It works for some shows. Everybody Loves Raymond comes to mind. I don't support anti laugh track snobbery. I enjoy both single cam and multi cam/laugh track comedies. Ultimately it really just depends on the show. However, I think today's writers really struggle to write effectively for the laugh track. If you go back 10-15 years ago almost all laugh track shows were great. They really knew how to write for the format. Fast forward to today and almost every laughs track comedy is subpar.

Without laugh tracks, how would the television audience know when something funny happened?
