The Sundowners 1960 While You Were Sleeping 1995 Thank you for your post re: this special lady! I've always been a fan. Just a quick correction: among her films, you list Rob Roy under the year 1953. No--her Disney movie for that year was The Sword and the Rose, while Rob Roy--full title: Rob Roy: The Highland Rogue--came later. (IMDb gives a release date for RR of 1953, but lists the official U.S. premiere as 27 February 1954.) In both of those U.K.-filmed swashbucklers her romantic lead/co-star was the excellent--and much too often overlooked--Richard Todd. Although it's not directly connected to her film career, it's worth noting that she starred as Desiree Armfeldt in the original Broadway production of A Little Night Music, and Stephen Sondheim wrote "Send in the Clowns" expressly for Miss Johns. From Wikipedia: "The show's best-known and Sondheim's biggest hit song was almost an afterthought, written several days before the start of out-of-town tryouts.[38] Sondheim initially conceived Desiree as a role for a more-or-less non-singing actress. When he discovered that the original Desiree, Glynis Johns, was able to sing (she had a "small, silvery voice")[39] but could not "sustain a phrase", he devised the song "Send in the Clowns" for her in a way that would work around her vocal weakness, e.g., by ending lines with consonants that made for a short cut-off.[39] "It is written in short phrases in order to be acted rather than sung...tailor-made for Glynis Johns, who lacks the vocal power to sustain long phrases."[40] I have heard (sorry, don't have a link) that he still considers her rendition of the iconic song definitive. She was nominated for a Tony for Best Actress in a Musical for this role (though unfortunately did not win). Anyway, Many Happy Returns, Miss Johns!

I liked her as Lady Penelope Peasoup on Batman. That's Rudy Vallee as Lord Ffogg.

ellynmacgIt can always be argued what year that is the correct year for a movie, I guess that old Imdb (that I looked at) considers A Royal Command Film Performance 26 October 1953 as it's world premier, and that is why I think imdb states that Rob Roy is from 1953. Thank you for your information about Send in the Clowns, since I've seen it on youtube once, and has been wondering why she sang it.
