What the hell is this? I've never even HEARD of "Toho," so it can't be serious, popular, or any good.

That's the name of the movie company from Japan that made many Godzilla films and lots of other Japanese films! I assume you have never seen any of their films which explains why you've never heard of them!
Make no mistake about it even with just the Godzilla movies alone they have a very huge fan base it's every bit as popular as Star Wars, Marvel or James Bond.

I was kind of halfway being a wiseass. But I appreciate your sincere, helpful, and awesome response. Thank you! Do you have a favorite Godzilla flick?

Cool. Does one need to watch the Godzilla films in chronological/release order, or are they like the James Bond films where you can sort of just pick and choose? Like if I just picked that one and gave it whirl would I be completely out of my element?

Is it the same Toho that made the anime version of The Wizard of Oz that had Aileen Quinn (from Annie) doing the voice of Dorothy? Because I love that adaptation.

Like if I just picked that one and gave it whirl would I be completely out of my element? You can pick and choose with most of them from the millennium series just as long you have seen the original Godzilla 1954 film!
But most of the others either from the Showa series or Heisei series you would need to watch all of them, but not necessary in chronological order.
There are also loose tie-ins to the Godzilla Showa series as well or as most people now refer it to as the Toho Showa Universe. You can check out my thread on those ones at the bottom of the page they are all there! Godzilla's name is never mention in the tie-ins but there are lots of other stuff that helps tie in to his original series as well as other non Godzilla films, you just have to keep a look out and know what to look for.
But some of the stuff from the tie-ins do appear however in the original Godzilla series. I'm still finding stuff even now that I never knew about before some clues are very well hidden, those clever bastards.

Regarding the Showa series...only the first two entries REALLY need to be seen in order. Heisei...it's a series in tight continuity with the first three being directly linked. Millenium...only "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla" and "Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S" follow a set chronology
