As a big Marvel fan, my analysis below is on the 4 shows, and the Defenders. There is some great material here, some very entertaining material, but also some unfortunate divisiveness.
Daredevil - by far the best show of the bunch, and of the better ones on TV. Mature, intelligent, morally deep and dark, it really is all you can ask from a serious show. Matt Murdock is one of the most complex and interesting characters on TV right now. His duels with the Punisher especially, both physically and psychologically, were phenomenally well written.
Iron Fist - while an interesting show overall, it was hampered by a very bland, very tiresome supporting cast. And while it went deep into the K'un-Lun mythos...it was treated more as background information, then a character-defining element. Case in point is how Danny's "celibacy" got tossed right out the window at the soonest flash of puppies. Danny could never have been written to say "no," cause then he wouldn't fit the "liberated society" narrative.
Jessica Jones - now admittedly I did not see every episode, only bits and pieces. This show I don't want to critique too much, as JJ is a likable and sympathetic character. But the response the show has received - the roar of shrieking college club feminists is hard to ignore, given that in interviews the writers have also embraced such mantra. This is just not what Marvel is supposed to be about.
Luke Cage - I appreciate that on the surface they tried to make a show with a strong moral message and guidance...but LC is supposed to be a hardass, not a big dude with a huge stick up his ass, which is how he came off here. And for all his encouragement to black youth, he ends up honoring his dead wife by forgetting her with other women very, very easily.
Finally, the Defenders. Overall I very much enjoyed it and thought it was entertaining. Only thing is, there was a bit too much of the whole "I don't want to play with you now" going on, dragged for too much of the season. More personal interaction could have improved things. But I absolutely loved the final episode, it was perhaps the masterpiece of all the series so far. So very much looking forward to watching more.
