I know that having cute and marketable characters is nothing new for Star Wars, but the Porgs just seem out of place. Isn’t The Last Jedi supposed to be a darker film? It just seems odd seeing characters who are arguably even goofier than the Ewoks in what is supposedly meant to be more of an original and character-driven film.
It’s like having the Ewoks in ESB. It would just seem bizarre. I’m not by any means suggesting that they’re the next Jar Jar Binks, but they just seem a tad excessive.

When I saw this scene with the Porg and Chewbacca in the new trailer, I couldn't help feeling I would've rather seen an Ewok there. Even Captain Tarpals saying something like "Bombad flying!" Nien Nunb? A Jawa? Anyone else!

As I said before, the Porgs make Jar Jar look like Rambo & turn the Ewoks in2 Predators.

I’m guessing that one porg stows away on the Falcon and they’re stuck with it at first but it becomes like a ship cat.

Ha ha, brilliant - I can see that now:- BB-8 chasing porgs around the falcon cracking electricity up their asses R2-Ewok style, followed by that pop out lighter thumbs up to Chewie once he's got the Job done. Meanwhile R2 is back to his non-responsive state in the corner - "mechanically he is completely fine but for reasons we can't explain we're losing him".

Before he perishes, R2D2 gives birth to two new droids - L2D2 and P2D2. C-3P0 turns to the dark side and hunts down all the remaining porgs and BB units throughout the galaxy.

A movie that features tauntauns, silly Yoda, ugnaughts, mynocks, and a backwards-headed C3PO.
