Why should you lose any excitement to see it just because of poor reviews?

Why should you lose any excitement to see it just because of poor reviews? I'll still go see it but it's disheartening to see a bunch of 1 and 2 star reviews calling it a disaster.

I wanted it to be good, but I'm not all that surprised at the bad reviews.
There was just something "off" about the trailers.

Not a good look for a thriller. When I heard the title and saw the screen shot of the corpse with a snowman head I thought it was about a killer snowman. Too bad it wasn't.

i am still hopeful. Just going to see it right now. Trying to convince myself its going to be one of those film that critics are "wrong" about . Still looking forward to it though, no matter wha the reviews say.

Like it was an extremely dry parody of these types of movies. I watched the trailer with a friend and I didn't think it before but we burst out laughing when Fassbender said "he's completely insane".

it was bad. it was Really bad. I dont get it though. Director and screenwriter of good films (like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Scorsese was an executive producer and Fassbender main role. How?? HOW? HOOOOW? I would rate it 20%. It was A) almost incomprehensible - too many characters, plot moving too quickly, motivations of characters unclear THROUGHOUT the movie (and after credits) B) boring C) not scary, not really thrilling Interestingly enough there was ONE good scene. Which felt and looked very TTSP, and at that very moment (in the filing room right before she gets the call for those of you who have seen it you probably know) it was VERY good. the problem was that it lasted for about 5 seconds and then it went back to boring too convoluted shite of a movie that even Fassbender himself with all his skills and looks, couldn't save. I almost walked out twice. Granted - I havent read the book. And from people that did, Its supposed to be pretty good and a lot was left out and/or changed. Like:( the killers fascination with snow and his triggers!!! How the fuck could that be left out?? ) But I suspect the biggest horror occurred in the editing room. Maybe one day, decades later, we get the Final Cut and the movie will redeem itself. It was nice to see Val Kilmer on the screen again. His was an interesting part. But like MOST OF THEM he was only there for about 2-3 short scenes. Aaargh.

So a movie about a murderous supernatural snowman would have been better?

From RT this is my favorite: or all its high-caliber talent mix, The Snowman is a largely pedestrian affair, turgid and humorless in tone. Really? out of all the issues you could point out if you didn't like the movie you go for " humorless" ?? Every movie has to have humor right now or waht?

Ah man thats really disheartening to hear. The trailer looked great, I love Fassbender as an actor and I like the thriller-horror genre quite a bit. It had all the ingredients to be a great film like Gone Girl, how can they get it so wrong!

Sounds like it'll have more in common with last years The Girl on the Train (a movie that came in with a good level of hype in October) than Gone Girl, which also came in October.
Still watching though but I'll temper expectations.

The director is coming clean about behind the scenes issues. Apparently the production was rushed. Really rushed. TEXT: "...Our shoot time in Norway was way too short, we didn't get the whole story with us, and when we started cutting we discovered that a lot was missing. It's like when you're making a big jigsaw puzzle and a few pieces are missing so you don't see the whole picture." www.cinemablend.com/news/1714950/why-the-snowman-has-so-many-problems-according-to-the-director

Wish I saw this thread before I opted to see it instead of Geostorm at a pre-screening. Granted, I'm sure Geostorm probably sucked too, but it probably wasn't boring at least.

Could be the worst movie of the year. Love this quote:
The Snowman starts bad, gets worse, and finishes somewhere suboceanic. It may take decades for researcher to plumb its badness; perhaps only with technology yet to be invented.
Gee Wiz!!!!!
