Just wondering if there was a way to disconnect a particular thread from your participated list.

Unfortunately, there's no way to remove particular threads from your feed. Once you've participated, it will stay on the list and rise back to the top of the list whenever it is responded to.
You can, however, mark certain threads as "Read Forever" to prevent them from notifying you that a new response has been added. To do that, click the Participated button and hover your mouse to the left of the thread title and click the box that appears. In the top left of the Participated window, there will be a drop down box that reads "Actions". Click it and select "Mark as Read Forever".
Any thread will have to be identified as "New" for this option to become available, as well.
