Bonnie Bedelia was born on March 25th, 1948 in New York City, New York. She began her career as a professional actress in theatre. Bedelia rose to national prominence when cast in the CBS daytime soap opera 'Love Of Life' (1961–67). She made her movie debut under the direction of John Frankenheimer in 'The Gypsy Moths' (1969).
Bedelia is the daughter of journalist Phillip Harley Culkin and writer Marian Ethel Wagner Culkin. She lost her parents during her teenage years and developed a professional reputation for being hard-working, tough-minded and fiercely independent. She'd initially trained in ballet, like Lea Thompson and Sarah Jessica Parker who'd break through in the 1980s, performing dance on stage during her formative years (including productions staged by George Balanchine's prestigious New York City Ballet). Bedelia also attended the Quintano School For Young Professionals in New York. Her nephews Macaulay Culkin, Kieran Culkin and Rory Culkin have all become successful child actors. Bedelia herself now lives a quieter life with her third husband, actor Michael MacRae.
Bedelia is a Golden Globe nominee, an Emmy nominee and an Independent Spirit nominee but has tended to just miss out during prize-giving time. She's appeared on Broadway, off-Broadway, and retained strong stage credentials. Her artistic reputation among her peers remains formidable and some of America's finest filmmakers have led praise for her work in pictures. She's also performed regularly on television and made some fine movies and mini-series in the medium, including Tobe Hooper's seminal supernatural presentation 'Salem's Lot' (1979). Between 2010 and 2015, Bedelia was a series regular on NBC's family drama 'Parenthood'.

"The School of American Ballet was founded in 1934 in New York, and remains one of the world's great ballet schools. Founding the company proved trickier. In 1935, George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein formed the American Ballet, which lasted only a few performances before becoming the ballet company of the Metropolitan Opera. But Balanchine was not much interested in opera and left in 1938. He made ballets for Kirstein's short-lived American Ballet Caravan in 1941 and for the (now New York-based) Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, but spent much of his time in commercial theatre. His work on Broadway included Ziegfeld Follies of 1936 (in one scene he partnered Josephine Baker) and Cabin in the Sky (1940). His Hollywood work included Goldwyn Follies (1937) and Star Spangled Rhythm (1942). In 1946, Kirstein and Balanchine set up Ballet Society, which attracted the attention of Morton Baum, who invited Balanchine to form a resident company. And so, in 1948, New York City Ballet was formed. Aged 44, Balanchine finally began to stabilise his position and realise Kirstein's vision of an American ballet. The company expanded considerably after 1964, when it moved to the new Lincoln Center, which was designed to Balanchine's specifications. By that time, Balanchine had established NYCB as one of the world's preeminent ballet companies and certainly the most modern. His reputation and influence as a choreographer had grown to a global scale. Balanchine remained with New York City Ballet for the rest of his life, and all his major works were made for the company."
