I was astonished that they acknowledged Rex and Cassie and that they were genetically engineered, never mind all of the other crazy things, like John's faked death after the car accident, plus Hope/Gina, etc.
I mean, these are all legitimate parts of the show's past, but they always seem to shy away from acknowledging them as such. It makes sense though to embrace it when quite literally bringing someone else back from the dead.
Not sure how far off the mark things might turn out, but my take would be that EJ had been given something by Stefano - a sort of failsafe, in the event one of their enemies came after him, and he had to play dead using the same compound used to the fake the Salem Stalker's deaths, or invariably Stefano's various fake deaths. This would be why Stefano sent Kristen to the morgue when EJ died, to test for the compound and administer the reversing agent if it were present - but it wasn't. Instead, EJ gave his "shot" or whatever to Will to hold on to, to protect himself in the event he made enemies as an intrepid writer/journalist, determined to shine a light in every dark corner. When Ben came after him, Will used it to play dead; and a morgue attendant on the Dimera dole worked things out, contacting Rolf and a protocol was implemented to revive Will and take him out of Salem. Not entirely sure why Will wouldn't just return afterwards, probably prevented from doing so for various reasons by the Dimera family, but what would be a nice spin - and almost definitely won't be the case - is if the trail Sami was following, thinking it would lead to EJ, actually lead to Will.

Yep, leave it to Ron to bring up history. Really good.

I had to rewind the scene because I didn't believe my ears and then today John full on repeated what happened to him to Paul!

I do feel like they're overstating things with John and now Will though. They always kept what happened to John ambiguous, but my assumption has always been that his purported death was only ever just that; staged for the perception that he was dead, but never actually as close as we or the characters were lead to believe. It's harder to say what the case will turn out to be with Will, bit ostensibly it would be the same. Talking about bringing either "back to life" strains credulity more than simply saying they were really quite so dead as we thought.

Right now, only Kristen would know for sure... we'll find out when Eileen comes back... if she comes back as Kristen. But if she comes back as Susan or Sister Mary Moira, we won't.
