In honor of the day, here's a bit of Friday the 13th trivia that as far as I know isn't documented anywhere. One of the musical motifs that composer Harry Manfredini used in the first two Friday films was an ascent up the pitches of a minor-major 7th chord: G–B-flat–D–F-sharp. You can here it first when Mrs. Voorhees ascends the ladder to kill Claudette and Barry before the first film's opening credits. When it came time to make the funky disco version for Part III, he took the same notes but put them in a different order and configuration: B-flat down to G, then up to F-sharp and descending to D. There's actually quite a bit of compositional tightness in the music. Much of the music is just this chord and a French Augmented-Sixth chord, but they are used in ways that's not so obvious. Anyway, hope you enjoy this little bit of trivia.

Thanks for the tidbit, Flynn. Such an amazing score for what many would consider a movie series unworthy of such greatness (not me). If only they'd kept using it throughout the series.

It is a pretty creative and distinct score. I actually think the work Manfredini did for Jason Goes to Hell is some of the best music in the series. That film is probably unworthy, but the music is first rate in that one. It's a good progression of what he did earlier in the series, but ramped up and nore intense.

I've always liked the piece of music that's played at the end when Alice is in the boat right before Jason jumps out of the lake. Its the instrumental version of the song that is played in the diner towards the beginning of the movie.

Its the instrumental version of the song that is played in the diner towards the beginning of the movie. That's a different piece than the one I'm talking about, but I like that one too. So many people hear the similarity to Jaws and Psycho and then discount the music in this film as a ripoff, but if you look closer, it's a very different creation. The way the music works in the film is both unique and clever.
