But now I am trying to look at life in a more positive way so I am going to start watching news or reading news again. I'm not so sure that's such a good idea. Maybe not watching the news is why you're starting to have a more positive outlook... You are right. I kept with my practise of not watching news. I have not seen a TV channel news in over decade. Yes, once the pandemic hit I did read about it because I needed to know what is going on and do still keep tabs on Corona related stuff and sports affairs but apart from that I continue to not watch news. Especially I keep away from the political ones. Yes, if a scientific or business event happens then I follow the news to extent of reading websites but that's it.

At 11:00pm, they have the local news. It airs after I have gone to bed. However, they do replay it between 6:00am and 9:00am the next day. So, I watch it then.
I usually have supper at about 5:30pm. While I'm eating, I'll put on a DVD or watch something that I have recorded. At 5:59, I will stop what I am watching, and put on the local news.
Seems like a lot of stories lately have come with the "some of the images may be disturbing" warning before they show the footage.

Not really.
I skim the headlines on the BBC website to see if anyone has declared WWIII and that is about it.

Local news in the US is a joke. Every city has the same interchangeable beauty queens with pearly-white chiclet teeth and lots of hair and perfect cheekbones. They are mostly vapid airheads who can't even read a teleprompter half the time and make a lot of mistakes. Many of the reporters seem to come and go and it's like they are getting a tryout or an audition, before they move on and you never see them again. The news is now all-virus, all-the time, or else it's lifestyle crap about food and craft beer. I only sit through the local news so I can see the weather. I base my channel choices on who the weather forecasters are. I only watch the ones I like and who have good on-camera personas and good delivery and tell you a lot about the WHY as well as the WHAT...I'm a lifelong weather junkie. And where I live, the weather is VERY important, because it's highly variable most of the time. We get a lot of snow in the wintertime, so weather forecasters get a LOT of eyeballs around here. On the other hoof, I still watch the nightly network news shows. I channel-surf between NBC and CBS. I no longer watch ABC, because it's crap. Too many crime stories and violent incidents. Who gives a damn about another car chase or bank robbery in Los Angeles, when it's two or three thousand miles away? Network news is more dumbed-down than it's ever been, and the anchorpeople mostly suck, and it's SHORTER. Used to be at least 22 minutes of news in the old days, but all the ads aimed at geezers (the bulk of the viewing audience) have cut that down to 15-17 minutes in a half-hour timeslot. I've timed it. It's ridiculous. But I have been watching the nightly network news for 55 years now. Hell, I only smoked for 32 years before I quit, cold turkey. Network news is far more addictive. And the news has gotten much, much worse over the last five years. One guess why. I find myself yelling and cursing at what I see happening. Night after night after night after... My wife is addicted to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC...we've been watching her for TWELVE YEARS. I like her a lot, but not EVERY night. That's just too mucking futch! Very depressing to hear what she has to say most of the time. A couple of times, it's been so awful that even she has come very close to losing it on the air. I don't blame her one damn bit. I think I'm losing it, too. Hearing about an approaching civil war tends to do that...

On and off. If I do, it's usually CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, etc.

I have not had a TV for over 10 years now. I used to read news on internet. The guy called OldSamVimes convinced me that watching or reading news is not worth it as it fills you with negativity. I know it is a subjective opinion but I still felt it was true in my case. News made me angry more often than not. The politicians make me go mad. So I removed the bookmarks of news sites and for past year I have not watched or read news. The main way news reaches me is from the content I read on IMDB V2. Occasionally I hear about things when I am on job. But I am happy that I stopped watching news. But now I am trying to look at life in a more positive way so I am going to start watching news or reading news again. Please expect me to be on this new board in the future. How about you people? Do you watch news regularly (or read)? I watch TV news daily. Both national and local. And I listen to news talk radio everyday all day. I usually watch ABC evening news and the PBS Newshour. I have all the news apps on my smart TV and smartphone. I regularly check the news headlines on YouTube, and I watch anything that is interesting to me. I also have the local NBC affiliate app on my TV. And I also have the local CBS app on my smartphone. I really don't understand anybody who would purposely embrace ignorance. Yes, the news is mostly bad. But we have a responsibility to keep it in context. It's only the news. There are lots of sources for positive information. I think it's your obligation to stay informed. And Facebook is not a good sole source.

I have recently avoided watching the news because of a lot of political bias and it’s hard to tell what news about the corona virus is real or not since it’s always changing. Many sources also claim opposite things
I like watching or reading the news if it’s about a topic I’m interesting in or if it’s informative, but overall I rarely watch it because it’s almost always negative. Ironically that’s what gets them the most views
