Good news for "Bubble" fans! When the movie was cut from 112 minutes in 1968 to 91 minutes, it was thought that the excised footage was junked; this turns out not to have been the case. A longer version of "The Bubble" seems to be on the horizon. Whether or not this is a good thing rather depends on your opinion of the movie. Although the 3D is stunning, particularly on the big screen, it's probably one of the worst movies in history. That said, I'd still buy a re-restored version. But then, I prefer the original cinema version of "Blade Runner" so what do I know?

THIS, NOT 'The Simpsons' lol IS from where Stephen King stole the idea for his CRAPPY series 'Under the Dome'. Not sure how good or bad the novel is as I've never read it.

The book is OK but I had to admit defeat and give up on the TV series.
the 3D Film Archive has several restorations in the pipeline but the bad news is it looks as though they'll be released by Kino, a company which has little or no interest in shipping outside the US. Bittorrent here I come!

After a few pages the similarity was pretty obvious but I wouldn't call it a rip-off. The impenetrable dome wasn't exactly a new idea in 1966. If you want to see a real rip-off read Ursula K. LeGuin's "The Word for World is Forest" and then watch "Avatar".

I don't know how widely released it was in the US but it definitely made it to the UK where it was thoroughly panned, although the critics were rightly impressed by the 3D. The cut down version was retitled "The Fantastic Invasion of Planet Earth" but when I saw it in the UK in the early eighties it was still called "The Bubble". In all honesty, the remarkable 3D is the only reason to see it, on a cinema screen if possible. Of all the 3D movies I've ever seen, "The Bubble" is the only one where objects come off the screen and seem to be in the cinema with you.
