I never really cared for Batman Beyond.

I'm sure he could do it.
I think Matt Reeves should write the entire Batman trilogy. He will obviously direct at least the first one as of now, but I think they should bring in another director.
That could be Villeneuve. There's no doubt that Batman would be in his wheelhouse.

Having seen what he did with Blade Runner 2049 last week, I couldn't help thinking afterwards that he would have been the perfect director for Watchmen. Especially with the same cinematography and pacing as BR 2049. And a similar score, for that matter. Much as I thought Snyder's version was acceptable, Villeneuve might have made it the classic it should have been. (Though I hear BR 2049 hasn't done too well, despite it being a good movie, so maybe a Villeneuve Watchmen may not have fared much better.) Not that I entirely blame Snyder for his version, a Snyderised Watchmen is probably more palatable to the average moviegoer. (At some points he did hit the mark, especially with the Mars scenes.)
Back to the DCEU, I've never read Batman Beyond (is it now canon with the regular books, or is it Elseworlds/its own thing?), but I'm sure he'd be a great fit, but he'd be just as good for a GL movie (him or Duncan Jones, both experienced with intelligent SF).
