Would you say the classic 1984 horror/fantasy/adventure comedy is not only influenced by 40s ghost chase movies but also HP Lovecraft's works? i mean scientists who are paranormal investigators and a dimensional way of demons/spirits and ancient gods with Gozer being an ancient being with a building as a beacon signal by worshippers long ago.

I've never made the connection between Ghostbusters and Lovecraft specifically before, but yeah you're absolutely right. I think this is what makes Ghostbusters so different than any other paranormal movie I can think of, the ghosts aren't demonic in origin, at least not in the Abrahamic religious sense. As soon as Gozer shows up it becomes trans-dimensional and psychedelic. I could absolutely imagine an alteranate timeline where Aykroyd and Ramis abandoned this script and it ended up in the hands of Stuart Gordon.
