As promised from the IMDb message boards I would put up my review since I was very lucky to be at the premiere on Monday, January 30. This will be my last movie review my fellow imdb friends! Now for this type of movie you're obviously not going to expect some academy award nominations but the action choreography and cinematography are fantastic! I think it should get some tech nominations if anything!
The movie definitely does a great job building upon the continental world and even though the budget is obviously higher, it still maintains wonderfully crafted action scenes with heightened reality. I still think my favorite scene is the red circle/bath house scene because the music perfectly complements the movement of the action. From kaleida's think when John wick is trying to be stealthy to the faster track techno track when he's trying to chase Viggo's son. I was never a fan of some of the more recent action films like the transporter so it's refreshing to able to watch a great action film that has its own unique style and tone which sets it apart from all the other modern action films in Hollywood. I grew up watching a lot of Hong Kong films so this movie does a wonderful job with paying homage to many magnificent martial arts films and you'll see a breathtaking mirror scene which will remind you of Enter the Dragon!
I'll try to keep this as concise as possible so here are my positives:
+ Better world building, bigger action with wonderful fight sequences proficiently done by Keanu reeves, beautiful lighting, great camera work and it doesn't feel like a cheap sequel. Laurence Fishburne reunion! Ian McShane has a bigger rolethis time around.
Here are my negatives:
- The scene where everyone stops from the trailer. When you find out why it kind of becomes really weird to know why there's so many. Laurence Fishburne wasn't in it as long as I would like. It didn't have a good build up like the original John Wick. The main antagonist felt under utilized. The soundtrack wasn't as good as the first as well. Other than that those are minor nit picks and for this type of entertaining movie you know you're in for a ride!
TL;DR. It's awesome! It didn't disappoint and you're in for a really really fun ride! 10/10. I can't wait for Chapter 3!
