What a crock.
I meant to post this sooner - I had seen reported elsewhere that the 20th would be her last aired episode, which appeared to track with her final scene of the episode, vowing to return one day. But seriously, how is that supposed to be a fitting departure? I had read that Ari Zucker promised fans would be happy how she goes out. I'd pretty much take her walking into Roman's bedroom again to this.
The last minute thing with her rediscovering feelings for Eric and then cheating on Brady, like Brady had been paranoid about this whole time, was just plain stupid. I don't even know where to start, because I just don't any part of it worked. I can get behind her forgiving Eric for accidentally killing Daniel, and even finding it in her heart to care about him as a friend again, but I just can't help but think negligent manslaughter is going to be a perpetual dampener of any possible romantic feelings. Maybe that's just me, and there are all sorts of people in this world who can not only forgive a person responsible for killing a loved one, but develop romantic affection for them, but I think it's weird.... It seems like that would always be a specter hanging over their relationship.
More importantly, as I've said elsewhere, I hate that Brady was proved right and every jealous, pigheaded thing he's done the last several months is retroactively justified; when in fact he was completely off base at the time.
I don't like the fact that Nicole being drugged at the time of killing Deimos is entirely ignored; I would much rather have preferred an investigation and hearing on that, which dismiss the charges because she was unwittingly (and unwillingly) acting under diminished mental capacity. Plus it would close the dangling thread of the Salem PD looking into Deimos' murder - though I imagine that's suddenly not going to be brought up anymore, since there's no viable resolution. And the real kicker is that Bonnie's ammunition for trying to blackmail Victor was thoroughly undermined from the start with the real killer being Nicole, and Victor knowing that fact from the start and not trying to use that to his advantage. I mean, it would do Brady any favors, but surely Victor would learn that Brady and Nicole were no longer together, and have fewer qualms about throwing Nicole under the bus, even if it weakens Brady's revenge, if it means saving his own skin. It would take the power away from Xander too.
When Nicole left Holly with Chloe - what was it, two or three weeks back - after learning that Eric still had feelings for her, and that Brady had found out, and demanded Eric fire Nicole; I fully expected Nicole to be heading back to the mansion and having it out with Brady. Whether she felt the same about Eric doesn't change what Brady did to her, or tried to do; he thought it was okay to dictate Nicole's life and control thing, and that was solely when he knew how Eric felt. Under any other circumstance Nicole would have torn Brady a new one for trying to pull something like that; she did with Deimos and with Chloe, and anyone else that got in her way. That's probably why she and Sami butted heads so often, because they were so much alike.
And I kept thinking through all of this that, that would have been a far more appropriate send off for Nicole. She finds out that Brady tried to have Eric fire her, which prompted Eric to quit the Center instead, and she confronts Brady; putting him in his place for treating her like a child that can't be trusted, while she in fact maintains the moral high ground, because (in this scenario) she does have feelings for Eric, but would never act on them, because her feelings were greater for Brady and she wouldn't hurt him like that - like he hurt her. He doesn't trust her, and doesn't respect her; and maybe that has to do with how he's been hurt by the likes of Kristen and Theresa, but after everything Nicole has faced, all the men in her life who've tried to control her, she can't stay with someone like that again; especially now that she has Holly. So she packs her things and tells Brady she's taking Holly and leaving Salem; and she stops by Eric, kisses him with deep affection, only to tell him goodbye. Whether or not her feelings for him have returned, she can't prove Brady right for distrusting her; and though Brady's lost the right to object to who she's with, she needs to prove it to herself that she's not just leaving Brady in order to justify being with Eric. She needs her happiness to be hers, because she's earned it, and not to spite someone else, or because it's suddenly more convenient. Eric is heartbroken, but more understanding and wishes her the best in finding that happiness; and asks for forgive him one more time if he hopes that her search might lead her back to his door one day, to which she responds that anything is possible.
