In honor of the 2017 World Series, I want to know which movies on the theme of baseball are your favorites.
I think my favorite is THE PRIDE OF THE YANKEES, starring Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig. And there is also THE PRIDE OF ST. LOUIS, with Dan Dailey as Dizzy Dean. And of course, there is the musical DAMN YANKEES.
What are your choices?

Damn Yankees, far and away; the film by which I discovered a love of musicals.
Eight Men Out (1988) - The always intelligent and compelling director John Sayles tells the story of the real-life Black Sox scandal of 1919.
Big Leaguer (1953) - A lovely little film, Robert Aldrich's first as a feature director, with a spirited Edward G. Robinson as the coach of a Florida training camp.

My top baseball movies in chronological order. Most of the titles have already come up at least once so far.
The Winning Team / Lewis Seiler (1952). Fear Strikes Out / Robert Mulligan (1957). Pride of the Yankees / Sam Wood (1942) The Bad News Bears / Michael Ritchie (1976) A League of Their Own / Penny Marshall (1992) Bull Durham / Ron Shelton (1988) Eight Men Out / John Sayles (1988) Damn Yankees / George Abbott and Stanley Donen (1958). (I played Mr. Applegate in a community theater production and was damn good if I say so myself.)

Bang the Drum Slowly – it begins as a satire of the athlete-dying-young genre but turns out to one of the most moving. One of De Niro's early roles.

Since it's not a big pastime in Sweden I haven't seen so many, but... Pride of the Yankees 1942, is a wonderful movie, lighthearted at first, and a very sad ending. The farewell speach. Babe Ruth played himself, this pics I think is between takes.

Damn Yankees, and Field of Dreams top my list.
I would also add It Happens Every Spring, to the general list. It's a fantasy/quasi sci-fi/comedy, starring Ray Milland. I've only seen it once ... many years ago, on TV. But, it's worth a mention.
