Todd Rundgren - Tiny Demons (1981)I first heard it, through a rerun of Miami Vice, season 1, and which were titled Little Prince" (1985), and where it portayed the downfall of a rich drugdealer/businessman and familyman, and the tragic impact it had on his son. I remember really enjoying this dreamlike and haunting music and the way it was used in the episode, to that of Todd Rundgren, as it fitted so well in with the story and characters. A sad, yet beautiful and atmospheric song/melody, and surely the best cut from the album Healing (1981), which also contains a few others, which also made it into Miami Vice, but through different episodes. Great choice of song stefancrosscoe. I am a big fan of Todd Rundgren and own all his solo albums and his albums with Utopia and I'm surprised he didn't become a lot bigger 'cause he has wrote and recorded some great songs including some other Artists covered and had hits with like 'I Saw the Light', 'Hello It's Me', 'A Dream Goes On Forever', 'Can We Still Be Friends', 'Time Heals', 'Fade Away', 'It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference', 'Change Myself', 'Compassion' and 'You Make Me Crazy' and I don't know if you have heard of Kasim Sulton but he was Todd's backup singer and a member of his band, Utopia and a few years ago he released this song you might like.

Guns N' Roses - Oh My God I remember I was so hyped up, for the upcoming Chinese Democracy album, which was heavily rumoured to be released around 2002-03, and when Axl showed up during the MTV Music Video Awards during 2002, along with some older classics, yet the one I was most excited to hear, was Madagascar. But then, the months just went by, and I guess Oh My God and Madagascar was the closest to what you could get, from that infamous record. I liked the soundtrack to End of Days, not great, but it had that cool/mean sounding mix of rock, metal, industrial and electronic music, but sadly the movie ended up as a bit of an uneven one, even though Arnie puts in one of his darker or more serious roles, at least up till that point in his career. Anyway, I still have not heard Chinese Democracy, as I guess the fear of being let down, after so much expectations, but someday I might do something about that.

Great choice of song stefancrosscoe . I am a big fan of Todd Rundgren and own all his solo albums and his albums with Utopia and I'm surprised he didn't become a lot bigger 'cause he has wrote and recorded some great songs including some other Artists covered and had hits with like 'I Saw the Light', 'Hello It's Me', 'A Dream Goes On Forever', 'Can We Still Be Friends', 'Time Heals', 'Fade Away', 'It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference', 'Change Myself', 'Compassion' and 'You Make Me Crazy' Thanks, and nice to see that you are back. I did pick up a few of Todd's 70s and 80s albums, some years ago. But have only just recently, re-visited Healing. But I am planning on continue on, with Hermit of Mink Hollow, A Wizard, A True Star and Something/Anything?. and I don't know if you have heard of Kasim Sulton but he was Todd's backup singer and a member of his band, Utopia and a few years ago he released this song you might like. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/QNPT342v/d6p1gko-107b8761-b2a4-4224-9c37-ed191b3f8a0b.gif) That was a very Todd Rundgrenish song, and one I felt I had heard before, as it sure has that familiar feel to it, catchy, sweet and very playful music. I guess I should try to give Utopia a chance, later on, as I never got there, yet. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation of Clocks All Stopped, as beside Rundgren, I also got a bit of the early 70s Hall and Oates feel to that song, which is never a bad thing. By the way, speaking of Todd Rundgren and Tiny Demons, I love this live performance of the song: Such a powerful version.

I went through a few (well, pretty much all three albums of theirs, that I own) last year, and turned out that Pinkerton (1996), were the one I enjoyed the most, where as The Blue and Green albums, was maybe a bit "uneven", though both came along with some cracking tunes, I felt Pinkerton was the strongest, at least of that trio. As of right now, I have been borrowing a few of the records of my dad, who has been away, due to a nasty fall he had in his apartment, back in late january. And it was such a serious injury, that he was not sent home, until today. Have been some long weeks (11) but hopefully, his hip is healed well. Anyway, while he was away, I dug through a bit of his music collection, as I guess he is not that much of a big album listener, and maybe more of an Best of compilation fan, but I found a few interesting ones, lying around, and thought I could check them out. One I really enjoyed, was the work of Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, called Raising Sand (2007), which I thought contained some absolute beautiful and incredible cover versions. These three, are probably the ones I feel are the closest to what I would consider my favorite stand out tracks: Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Please Read The LetterRobert Plant & Alison Krauss - Trampled RoseRobert Plant & Alison Krauss - Your Long Journey

Another artist/album, I have not re-visited, for such as long time, is the british band Hawkwind, and their second release, In Search of Space (1971). I remember it was the very first record or theirs, that I picked up, due to a cool music magazine, covering prog rock and psychedelic rock, of the late 60s and early 70s, where I guess, band such as Hawkwind, The Pink Fairies and a few others, were mentioned under the term of "Space rock", and I quite liked that, as you really felt like their music took you on quite some journey, at times. However, another reason, of course was that Lemmy were closing in, of joining the band for a period, and I believe my CD version, includes a single cut, of Silver Machine, where Lemmy sings the main vocals, and it sounds really good.
One thing I did notice with this record, specially the 15-16 minutes opening cut of You Shouldn't Do That, is how it feels more in common with german kraut-rock, rather than the british prog-rock scene, at least of that time. It never becomes dull or boring, but just keeps on building onwards, and a really solid album opener. But the real highlight, or at least to my ears, comes with the stunning We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago, followed closely by Masters of the Universe.
Another album, I have not visited for years, is by the swedish band Meshuggah, and Destroy Erase Improve (1995), which I "stumbled" upon, when they were mentioned in an article, as one which had a heavy influence on Tool, after the two bands had toured together during the late 90s or early 00s. Anyway, I remember liking their heavy and atmospheric sound, which at times could be very brutal and hard hitting, technical, but still a record that brings forward a great mix of metal and prog, but also packs some stunning and more peaceful melodic moments.
For me, the song that sums up that record and its sound, in the best way, is the album closer, Sublevels:

I posted this in the 90s one hit wonders thread, but it is just one of those classic radio hits, of the early 90s, which fills me with so much sweet joy of nostalgia and memories from my childhood, and a shame that Oleta Adams never quite broke through as a bigger name within the r&b genre of that time, as she surely had the talent and voice, but I guess were not always as "lucky" with getting the right music or songs, to work with.
