I am ambivalent about today's episode. I like a good elseworld story, and today is arguably a good time to do it, but Days being Days, it started off just plausible enough to seem like any other episode - case in point my initial (now deleted) post on Rolph's revival. I don't expect him to stay dead, and that seemed believable enough for the current writers, even if I didn't care for this magic anti-death shot.
What followed really didn't seem so far off base, again, for Days anyway, in that it just seemed like their brand of stupid - up to Serena arriving at the Dimera mansion. I mean, Rolph turning Hope back into Gina hardly phased me, I just thought it was dumb, mostly because John had removed the chip from her years and years ago. At first I thought Hope might be tricking him, but things stopped adding up with Serena; then when Kayla showed up with the scarf she kept making a point of drawing attention to, I knew something was up. I expected her to be a vampire, but basically I knew they were going to pull a reveal that undid everything.
All in all, I will give them credit for staging it subtle enough at first, but honestly; of all the things this show telegraph's, or let's the audience in on the truth way too soon, I have mixed feelings as to whether or not this should have been one of them. I would much rather they play other stories this close to the vest, and be remotely this clever; and occasionally do a free for all romp like this, and lay it all out up front.

It was ok and lighthearted but I seriously don't understand why they would bring back Paige and Serena - two of the worst/boring characters of late. Of all the silliness they could implement, that was not something i cared at all to see, even in fun.

It was hard for me, mostly I think because it initially seemed like just the usual infuriating storytelling and questionable dialogue.
I like a good plot twist, but when it's cloaked by lousy writing, which you can't difference between it and a normal episode, it's difficult to enjoy. I'm not sure how much I would have enjoyed it had I known going in though. Once I figured it out, I started fast forwarding everything.

Actually, I enjoyed the episode for the fun of it. It was great to see Hope as Princess Gina and I always love seeing Dr. Rolph. Even though Serena and Paige were just filler, it was enjoyable for me.
