The Hanoi Hilton (1987), with Michael Moriarty, Aki Aleong, et al.
I saw this for the first time last night (featured on MGM channel, but it's also on YouTube). I was quite mesmerized by the story. The film itself is a bit flawed, due to a sort of Made-for-TV look & feel to it, plus you get the feeling that some of the extreme horrors of POW prison life were underplayed or cut altogether. And tbh, the ending feels rushed and low-budget.
All things considered, it's a gripping film that is worth watching and pondering at least once. Many fine performances, both by the POWs as well as the Hoa Lo prison commandant, Major Ngo Doc (played by Aki Aleong).
See it if you get the chance.

Michael Moriarty is a great actor from Detroit, Michigan. Gonna try and check this out for sure, thanks.
My top 10 Vietman movies :
The Boys In Company C (1978) The Deer Hunter (1978) Apocalypse Now (1979) First Blood (1982) Missing In Action (1984) Platoon (1986) Full Metal Jacket (1987) Hamburger Hill (1987) Born On The Fourth Of July (1989) Casualties Of War (1989)
There's some great movies about the aftermath, like 'Jacob's Ladder' (1990) and 'Platoon Leader' (1988), need to see them again, for sure.

Full Metal Jacket is great, but if you want to see R. Lee Ermey in another good Vietnam War action flick, definitely check out The Siege of Firebase Gloria (1988). I would also like to add Bat*21 (1988) to the list. Great movie, with Gene Hackman and Danny Glover... and be sure to read the true story it was based on - one of the most harrowing war stories I've ever read (you can find a good write-up on Wiki).
Also, funny you should list Platoon Leader (1988): I am watching that one right now on YouTube (not the greatest picture or sound quality, but it'll have to do for now).

petrolino : I will definitely look for that one. Just saw the trailer on YT... looks interesting. I'd recommend the rough independent 'How Sleep The Brave' (1982), from Canadian maestro Lindsay Shonteff, but you might have to search to find it under alternate titles/.

petrolino: I'll keep that one in mind. Here's a few more I'll toss into the ring:
The 317th Platoon (1965) - directed by Pierre Schoendoerffer, depicts a French platoon fighting in their version of the Vietnam War, circa 1954. The director - himself a veteran of the French-Indochina war - would later return to Vietnam and film a platoon of American soldiers for a documentary called The Anderson Platoon (1967). It's available on YT.
84C MoPic (1989) aka "84 Charlie MoPic" - interesting docu-drama style film, featuring a cast of unknowns reenacting Vietnam war action (filmed in So. California, but still fairly realistic).

Just finished watching The Anderson Platoon on YouTube. Gritty, exhausting look at a few days in the lives of a platoon of American G.I.s slogging it out in Vietnam, early part of the war.
