Thanks for bringing up Kansas City Confidential: first rate action Noir (sort of), featuring many fights and confrontations. John Payne's natural stiffness was right for revenge tales like this one. He and director Phil Karlson made a good team.
Excellent supporting cast of at the time relative unknowns. Nice work from Preston Foster as the good bad guy, whose natural playing was well utilized. His character "matches" well with Payne's, as he had "revenge issues" of his own.
The next year's Payne-Karlson collaboration, 99 River Street, is also quite good, though its less linear than this one and at times feels overpopulated, with too much going on, as if trying to cram too much plot into what ought to be a straightforward story.

I have a copy of 'Kansas City Confidential' on dvd but it's a really battered print with muffled sound. I'd like to trade it in for an upgrade. Cool movie.
