I only own an extremely basic mobile phone. It makes and receives calls, but nothing else. I only use it for emergencies.
I consider smartphones to be very evil devices that should be run over by tanks.

Who doesn't own a cell phone, and feels absolutely no need to get one ?? SAVE FERRISI have one, but I understand what you're saying. Some people are completely crazy with the cell phone sickness. On more than one occasion I would be talking with someone face to face (the way it used to be done) and their cell rings and they HAVE to answer it, without even saying excuse me. Rude. Or you're with a friend and they're too busy talking or texting to have a conversation with the person standing in front of them. Again, rude. Depending on where I'm at I'll leave my cell in the car to intentionally become unreachable. Not to mention how many car accidents and deaths are due to using the damn cell while driving. Cell phone etiquette 101 needs to be a required course.

Catman never saw the need for a cell phone until Catwoman slid into a ditch one icy morning a few years ago.
Now he has a simple flip phone while she has a slightly fancier phone with a keyboard so she can text.

I'm not a fan of phones in general but I need one. A couple important reasons are that people need to be able to communicate with me when I'm traveling, and I get calls to do last-minute sub work sometimes. I don't want to lose out on a gig just because people can't get in touch with me.

I bought a simple flip phone about a decade ago, for emergencies. I did occasionally use it for phone calls every once in a while though. I was very happy with it. I would still be using it, if my phone company had not discontinued it's 2G network, which is what that phone used. I then was forced to upgrade. Sadly, now I have a pain in the ass Smart Phone. Except for the Weather App, I still only use it for emergency phone calls... (which it doesn't do very well.)
Yeah, I don't understand this addiction people have with their phones. Nothing more annoying that seeing people talking on them all the time, standing in line at the bank, the grocery checkout lanes, ETC... Ugh.
And yeah, this driving while texting is BS!

I was doing a good job of resisting the pressure to get one. Then in 2004 Hurricane Ivan wrecked my area and landline phone service was down for over two months. So I had to get a cell phone. I've still never sent a text message. They are handy for emergencies, though.

When cell phones were the Zack Morris version, we had 911 phones for all our cars.
I got my first cell phone two days before 9/11 happened and I memorized my father's cell number on that day. I was teaching in the Bronx and my father was 5 blocks away from it.
Personally... If any accident happens and a cell phone was involved in any way, shape or form, whomever was using the cell phone (even the victim), the cell user should be held responsible for the accident. Sorry all you texting fools, you are dangerous.
