A lot of the focus on the poor decision to make Anakin Skywalker a little boy in TPM centres upon the poor acting and the wasted opportunity to have had another film with fan favourite Hayden Christensen in it.
However you don't seem to read so much about the very strange fact that Padme sexifies her relationship with that same little boy, now "all grown up" in AOTC! It just seemed to be accepted - even though even at it's time of release there would have been complete uproar (Snoke-style) if the ages and sexes had been reversed.
Given the enlightened times in which we now live, do you think it's only a matter of time before the SJWs will seize upon this as unacceptable? i.e. a female preying upon / grooming a minor should be viewed as equally paedo-istic as a male.
I can see that day coming - the result will be the much beloved PT being banned and these films will need to be remade...

I always thought it was weird how big of an age gap Lucas put between Padme/Anakin. Both were children though. It's not the same thing as say, Kevin Spacey, who preyed on young men/boys.

The old age difference discussion is comedy gold to demonstrate how obtuse people are.
- Anakin in TPM is 9/10 and Padme is 14 , thus an age difference of roughly 4-5 years. When they marry Anakin is 19/20, she is 25.
- Han Solo is in his mid 30s and Leia is 19 in ANH, thus roughly 15+ years difference (I also refer to the real life situation and "Han" being married).
But Anakin and Padme have a age difference problem. Got it.

In TPM there is no romance. Padme - naturally - regards "Ani" as a little boy (in the beginning of Clones too btw) and is not remotely interested in romance of any sort, and he is mainly missing his mommy. Of course he gets attached to her, she is the prettiest girl he ever saw, she is closest to him age-wise, and she looks like him mommy.
As said, the romance starts in Clones when both are adults, and with significantly less an age difference than Han and Leia.
All that nicely ties into the central PT dilemma: somebody who already has built up strong attachments (mother) becomes a Jedi but where he is not allowed to have any attachments; he projects those attachments on Padme and fears to lose her (like his mother he abandoned for the Jedi) and thus lusts for control and power.
This seems quite an sophisticated and insightful approach, banning something like that would be the contrary of enlightenment, rather an act of obtuse, uninformed barbarism. QED

I don't know that we need to start censoring 10 year old boys having crushes in movies. Padmé never romanticized it, but rather bonded with him as a maternal big sister type. Now if Padmé had planted a deep throated tongue kiss on little Anni after he won the pod race, then this would be a subject matter that should be continually revisited.
(I think I'm going to need to spray myself down with Lysol after posing that last scenario).

It is interesting how this thread seems to have developed into a muddled defence of the relationship, rather than an exploration of society's changing views, which was what I was interested in hearing views on.
Han / Leia actors (and characters if going away and looking for corroborating "evidence" elsewhere rocks your boat) were both adults when they met so that is completely irrelevant. Also, as per the OP, I said the relationship was sexified in AOTC, so saying nothing happens in TPM is again irrelevant.
I was trying to discuss more generally that if you had an eight year old girl looking up to seventeen year old saying "Oh you're soooo handsome, are you a real life Prince?" then in the next film set a few years down the line that same "prince" was then banging that little "all grown up" girl (after making reference to the fact that she would "always be that little girl I knew"!) people would then, as now, have gone absolutely bananas. Yet because the sexes are reversed that still gets a pass?
