this whole thing is pissing me off so much. spacey is an amazing actor and all anyone knows are somebodys statements, claiming he harassed them. not even allegations of rape. why would you want to cut out a person of this talent from art for this? Ok lets say it was true, he is already being dragged through hell. He'll go/went to treatment, probably would agree to donate money to victims/charity, and go through therapy, and be on his best behaviour going forward. Shouldn't it end there? Even people that commit crimes and go to jail are known to have gone back to showbyz.
Is it really THAT MUCH worse than what Wahlberg did? He was once charged with attempted murder for crying out loud and went to prison for assault. And there is many others that the society accepts in spite of JUDICIALLY stated violent record.
I really hope this is just a phase and Spacey will do some therapy, donate money, repent, and then after a year or two will be back in acting.

I doubt they'll remove him from the Academy. I mean Roman Polansky is still in there, and they didn't bat an eye to that. I don't agree with this decision though, especially a completed film past post production. The movie is only getting a limited release anyways, so it probably won't make much money regardless I doubt Spacey's scandal will have much if any effect on the BO.

Let's not forget Victor Salva (Jeepers Creepers) who still makes movies

At the end of the day, the production of this film is a money-making endeavor. Do the numbers. How does replacing Spacey help or hurt sales? How many potential audience members would see the film if Spacey were kept in it? How many would decide to NOT see it because Spacey stayed in it? How many outlets would decide to pass on carrying it (cinemas, broadcasters, Netflix, etc), or cut short any commitments already made for showing it? How would the critics and awards voters react to the film if Spacey stayed in it, which affects the potential audience numbers, versus if he were to be replaced? His fee and possibly any percentage he would be due on returns are almost certainly one of the highest costs of production. Maybe they can partially blunt some of the loss of revenue from the scandal by cutting him out--depending on what's in his contract.

This^ It's really unnecessary and at this point it seems like they're just dragging him through the streets needlessly. As a huge Spacey fan, I was really looking forward to seeing his performance in Scott's upcoming film.

Its going to be an impressive feat if they are able to keep the december release date. They might bump it, but it depends on how much of the film Spacey was in, and also Ridley is known for insane turnovers.... I mean the guy pumps out a movie a year.

I doubt the sales in Europe would be much affected if they kept Spaces in… but then again, maybe I am wrong. I guess only time will tell. I (and the people I know and consider friends in real life, and this is not guestimate, I have actually asked people) would for sure want to see him in further movies and shows…

He deserves everything he gets. It makes me sick knowing I watched some of his movies. The sick motherfucker should have his balls cut off.

This is a marketing decision. Ridley Scott would not want his movie to sink with Kevin Spacey, which is unfair to all the cast and crew who worked extremely hard for this movie.

I've heard that Scott originally wanted to cast Plummer in the role but the studio demanded someone with more popularity. Looks like Scott is getting his way afterall.
This film is going to be notorious for years.

That's just plain stupid and unnecessary. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? It's pretty scary to know that people are being judged from accusations made in the media.

We're not discussing the "innocent until proven guilty" anymore. Kevin Spacey has admitted to his sexual harassment actions and the accusations are continuously pouring in.
