Sicario seems to be popular with viewers, but while I enjoyed it well enough, I ultimately consider the film just "decent" (based on one viewing). The editing and action sequences are razor-sharp and pulsating, the cinematography—and sometimes searing or blinding location shots—is memorable, and the stars deliver solid performances. But the story is a rather souped-up, hackneyed potboiler, and while the film's Mexican borderlands milieu is fascinating, the movie strains to impose thematic resonances that jangle uneasily with its typical revenge-oriented plot.
