Double standard. You're ashamed of comics. I'm irritated by "grounded" movies that are clearly ashamed of the source material, like the FoX-Men movies. Incredible Hulk wasn't "grounded" otherwise they'd never have bothered having Bruce start to succeed in his quest to at least control the Hulk. That makes no sense.

The X-Men movies have the status quo never change and the world change because it would affect the "grounded" feel of the films. Incredible Hulk explores implications of being like the Hulk and the other effects of Gamma Radiation, thus changing how things were and affecting the world. Therefore it's not "grounded".

The tone is very grounded though. It feels like a spy thriller in most scenes. It's what they were going for.

But there was plenty of Superhero stuff in there to keep it clearly ungrounded sci-fi. Then again, this was only the MCU's second movie. Maybe they were just testing the waters before making things totally un-grounded.
