Australia-Honduras (09:00 GMT Wednesday)
Peru-New Zealand (02:15 GMT Thursday)
Both first legs ended 0-0.
My predictions. The final two qualifiers will be Australia, and Peru.
Group stage draw is also just a fortnight away, on 1st December.

This years Australian team is quite pathetic. They should have blitzed in qualification like they have done since they joined the Asian Confederation. Maybe at home they will get some inspiration. Rankings Australia 43 Honduras 69. Should be fairly even
Can't see New Zealand having any chance against a desperate South American side. Rankings Peru 10 New Zealand 122

Oz-Honduras 0-0 at HT. Very dull. Just 2 shots on target the whole half😴

Blimey - a goal!
And currently, Australia are going through.
About 35 to play.

This is killing me. Sitting on a train drifting in and out of internet coverage.
Hopefully the Socceroos can hold on.....

3-0 that's killed that game off then.

I won’t pass judgment until I have watched the actual game, but 3-0 flatters Australia greatly. 1 own goal and 2 pens. But, a win is a win. Qualifying is Qualifying after all....

So Australia join England as only the 2nd English speaking country to qualify for Russia 2018 (I think! I mean English as the predominant first language).
Little trivia question for you, no cheating on google because Jesus is watching you, when was the last time there was only one English speaking country at the world cup? And who was the country? (So for example, although English isn't an official language of USA, we are going by common sense here, as English is the first language of the majority of American citizens).
Guess away!

Did you look that up or did you know? Well top marks if you knew or had an educated stab! Ten out of ten. And if you did look it up, you could have at least made it believable by getting you first guess wrong! So yes, the correct answer is wee Scotland. It might come as a surprise to some non-natives that the noises that come out of their mouths is in fact normally English.

Educated Stab. I knew England didn’t qualify in 1978. Neither Ireland qualified. Wales haven’t qualified since 1958. USA didn’t between 1950-1990 Canada only in 1986 NZ in 1982 Australia in 1974. I figured it had to be the Jocks. TBH, couldn’t think of another English speaking nation qualifying before 1990.

Possibly further evidence as well that you've been playing it a little bit coy in the prediction league. I think you know what you're doing. (Not that WC trivia is a good predictor for being able to guess PL results reasonably well).

Supplementary question: Who were the only unbeaten side in the 1978 World Cup?

I know a bit about football history. I will say that. The thing with the EPL predictions is that I simply don’t see any of the games. I see 1 game a week in fuzzy SD if I’m lucky. I actually get to see more of the Championship than the EPL, as crazy as it is. Like I said, complete stab based on deductions. England has qualified a fair few times (15 I think), but didn’t in 1994 and 1978. I’ve heard many times USA qualified from 1990 till now. I knew Scotland was there in 1994. I assumed Scotland qualified in ‘66, ‘70 with England, and then 74 Australia, 82 NZ and 86 Canada. Stabbed at 1978. Could’ve just as easily been 1962.

Carl - I know this one. Brazil. Got dudded in the Second round when Argentina beat Peru 6-0, needing to win by 4. Nothing suspicious at all. Much like that West Germany - Austria game 4 years later.....
